Non-sequitur: This video reminded me of the episode of Real Time where former GM Vice Chairmain Bob Lutz was denying climate change saying the Earth's temperatures have naturally varied over time and we shouldn't trust climate scientists who argue for climate change because of this. He totally took for granted that climate scientists (geologists, glaciologists, et al.) are the one's who figured out the Earth's temperature has varied over time.
Here's what I don't get: in "Mad Max", how is it that there's a dire water shortage but leather is abundant? Are cows fucking somehow evolving into cacti or something?
I always chalked up the abundance of leather in Mad Max to post apocalyptic raids on Sydney sex shops. Also, I never took it to be a shortage of water, I just chalked that up to it being the Australian desert.
Mad Max is set in a part of the waste land where vehicular combat is the norm. Leather, then, is especially important for protecting yourself from the inevitable road rash injury you'll get botching that jump from the hood of a muscle car to a speeding tanker.
The leather thong, on the other hand, only serves the purpose of making everyone uncomfortable.
