I read that little Kevin was a relative of Jim Bakker (a cousin's son), so even if there's some part of you that wants to say "sure he's trotting out a deformed kid to help fleece the flock, but at least he's doing some good for a stranger" ... nope, maybe not even that. (I am hedging my judgment on this because, while the Internet makes it very easy to find any information you are looking for, the trick is verifying it.)

Tammy Faye Bakker was on "The Surreal Life" some years ago, and she came across as a fairly sympathetic figure, until you remembered that she was complicit in all this horseshit and wasn't just the victim of a bad marriage to a control freak (which was the part she liked to emphasize).

To me, the most stunning thing about all this is the audacity of the bullshit. There's no shortage of bullshit today, but the 80s really set the gold standard.

If Peter Popov can make a comeback anyone can.

Kevin has the worst room ever. One lame toy and decorated like my grandma's house, poor kid.

5 for evil.

I'm guessing they didn't just decide to tear it down because they'd made enough money off it. Has anyone found footage of this place after it was abandoned to the cruel whims of our capricious, hateful god? Deserted theme parks have a special sort of melacholy about them.

There was a documentary about Tammy Faye done when she was still alive (The Eyes of Tammy Faye or something) where they toured part of the decrepit park with her. She claims another bigshot Republican evangelist misled her and her then-husband out of the control of the park and its finances. The documentary also made examples of her years of drug abuse and how she was now "down with he gay homies"

"A whole farm of animals appeared on stage..." and they brought donkeys and chickens with them.

This probably wasn't anywhere near as easy to laugh at back when it was actually happening.

It seems like the narrator is making everything up as he goes

An amazing bit of history. I wonder how future generations will view televangelism at its height as it combined with the most deplorable aspects of commercialism.
