One of my best friends from high school married the daughter of one of the Aum Shinrikyo "inner circle". She had moved to America to try to get over her past, and fell in love with my friend, who I recall being the definition of what a teenager finds charming. I seriously envied him and his lovely wife and their kid. As it turned out, they never actually put pen to paper and got married.
9/11 happened, and he was told in no uncertain terms that his wife was not welcome iin America anymore. He even ponied up to marry her, and he found himself being included on Homeland Security's "TO BE WATCHED" list. So they packed up and went back to Japan, and now he's decided to cede his American citizenship in protest, and is thus unlikely to ever return.
