Not watching it is really your only defense. I thought I could try just one hit, but no. If you don't want to "get it", and I don't blame you, never, ever succumb to curiosity and actually watch MLP. Even ironically. Especially ironically.

It really is a good show. It has no right to be, but goddamn it, it is.

The flash animation style turned me right off on the show, it's actually pretty ugly to look at once you get done with the pilot's mythology lesson.

It took me at least a half dozen tries ("for research") to get through my first episode (because "research"). I think the animation is pretty well done for flash, and while it's no Akira or Samurai Jack, it's at least as good - no, better, better than Adventure Time. The ponies' faces are very expressive, and the animators are not afraid to go off-model every so often, which makes for some wonderful sight gags.

If either of you decide to keep researching, I'd recommend finishing at least the first fifteen minutes of the pilot (just to introduce the characters; you can safely skip the rest once all six main characters are introduced), then checking out either the Dragonshy episode (if you're a D&D/LotR nerd), the Party of One episode (if you like Ren & Stimpy style "creepy" stuff), or Sonic Rainboom (if neither of those sounds up your alley).
