Man, I had no idea there were so many Mortal Kombat ripoffs. I mean I always thought there was just a handful of them, not enough to fill a bookcase.

Surely with this many, there has to be one good one out there?

From this game's Wiki:

"The re-release was widely regarded as bizarre and obsessed with Jackie Chan, noting the fact that three different versions of Jackie Chan were playable and Jackie Chan could not be defeated or killed in a fight, only knocked down for a few seconds."

90s Mortal Kombat ripoffs are like Tupac albums. You only find out most of them existed long after they're dead.

There were seriously way too many of the fucking things. Cash-in after lame cash-in.

This game's really not that bad. There's not many characters, some of the moves are kind of lame, and the Parade Dragon guy... well, you see what he's like... but it's a pretty solid offering if you're in the mood for a second-tier arcade fighter.

The real draw here is the cast. Jackie portrays not one, but THREE different boss characters. It's also got Andy Lau, one of the (if not THE) most successful singers/ film stars in Hong Kong. He's not very well known outside of China, but in China, he holds the current record for box office earnings, almost double the amount earned by third place record-holder, Jackie Chan himself! Dude's a monster. Having Jackie Chan and Andy Lau in the same game is the Chinese equivalent of having Stonecold and John Cena in a tagteam together.

The rest of the characters are portrayed by an assortment of work-a-day action film stars and professional stuntmen, many (all?) of whom have appeared in Jackie's films. The chick from the preload image, for example, is Yeung Ching-Ching, who starred in a couple dozen Shaw Brothers films during the 80s and 90s.

Don't get me wrong, the game's forgotten for a reason, but if you're a kung fu nerd, it's worth checking out.

The parade dragon guy looks awesome.

EvilHomer - 2013-04-26

He is pretty awesome, actually. He's a goofy bastard, but he's got some cool charge moves and nice range to his kicks.
