I've never heard of your firm. I've never heard of any of your games.

I smell a lawyer somewhere with a pool being put in.

I'm so glad Greenheart Games, developers of exactly one game that looks so boring it makes the "Mystify" screensaver seem compelling, has taken this opportunity to educate us about a scourge that is bankrupting software companies the world over.

EvilHomer - 2013-04-29

Oh no! Not Greenheart Games! Please don't go bankrupt, Greenheart Games, then I couldn't look forward to such games as, I dunno, Game Dev Tycoon 2!

You know what was the best anti-piracy method I've ever seen? The one for Caustic, a synth-rack emulator for Android. The developer released the pirated version himself. No deception, no tricks, it was the full program and it worked fine. The only thing he did was in the torrent description, he disclosed who he was, said he knew we were going to pirate the software one way or another, and that even if we weren't going to pay him for his software, he still wanted to make sure we got a clean, virus-free copy. Oh, and if we like the software, maybe we could consider buying it?

To date, that's the only app I've bought for my 'droid.

Eight dollars for a shovelware knockoff of a game that costs five (and I bought for .50 on sale). And is named similarly, so you can accidentally purchase it instead. But piracy is causing the smartphone games market to be intollerable.

TheOtherCapnS - 2013-04-30

What is the original?

TheOtherCapnS - 2013-04-30

Ah, after watching the first 20s of the video, I assume you were talking about Game Dev Story. This game seems to be for different platforms (mac pc linux)

Caminante Nocturno - 2013-04-29

What a pretentious ass. I'm going to pirate this game and not even bother playing it.

WHO WANTS DESSERT - 2013-04-29

Delicious pirate tears are worth 5 stars.

unknown specimen - 2013-04-30

Coincidentally, it would have been fun if the pirate version actually had a win solution, or at least would give the developers data on how the pirate players figured out ways around the piracy issue. Then they could apply the pirated scenarios to real life. Then maybe Nintendo of America will pull their heads out of their asses. Then we'll have unicorns, who make magic ice cream.

You really don't need to talk that fast. You will not win a prize for being the guy that rushes.

By the way, your fiancee says you're like that with everything. That's why she's here.

RocketBlender - 2013-04-30

The post a pirate made in the support forum linked in the description is one of the best things I've seen on the internet in a while. "Can I make some kind of DRM?"

Quad9Damage - 2013-04-30

I thought what Rocksteady did with Arkham Asylum/City was a brilliant move. The icing on the cake was the clueless writing in to ask why Batman's gliding had quit working. This method completely blows shit like always-on DRM out of the water in terms of actually being tolerable and understandable.

Based on this video, though, "Game Dev Tycoon" looks like a terrible game. I wouldn't have bought it or pirated it in the first place because it reminds me of something I'd have seen in the software rack at a pharmacy or a Dollar General 10 years ago.

Quad9Damage - 2013-04-30

Make that 15 years ago. This would have definitely gone next to a $ 5 copy of "Bejeweled" or "Garden Party Planner '98."

spikestoyiu - 2013-04-30

No love for Serious Sam's immortal scorpion?

Robin Kestrel - 2013-04-30

Or, if you are of a certain age, the FBI Agents in "Alternate Reality".

kingarthur - 2013-04-30

Everything will become like the music industry: impossible to earn a living at. Increasingly low barriers to entry due to technology coupled with instant piracy the second anything is released or even recorded. I suppose a forced migration to cloud and tablet based computing and media management would change this, but I honestly don't know how anyone would force that change.

Quad9Damage - 2013-04-30

I have a friend who used to pirate every game and piece of software that came into existence. Steam seems to have convinced him to acquire games legitimately. I suspect it's that way with a few people.

Deplorable - 2013-04-30

Not as good as Earthbound.

Jet Bin Fever - 2013-04-30

Wow, such revolutionary social commentary! I look forward to their other game, Fashion Tycoon, where if I buy the game from Walmart all my foreign sweatshops burn down from a lack of corporate oversight. That'll show those fat cats!
