TheSupafly - 2013-05-03

So Kaufman is making this worse?

Nikon - 2013-05-03

This didn't work for me.

Old_Zircon - 2013-05-03

This was unwatchable.

themilkshark - 2013-05-03

I bet Lloyd smells like cigars and liquor.

joelkazoo - 2013-05-13

Lloyd is actually a health nut who despises smoking and works out daily.

mouser - 2013-05-03

Kaufman deserved a bio movie.

FABIO - 2013-05-03

Terror Firmer is pretty much that.

There's also a 90 minute documentary on Youtube about the making of Terrror Firmer, "Farts of Darkness".

God, working on his movies looks like a fucking blast.

5 for Llyod, always

Hugo Gorilla - 2013-05-03

I've never managed to finish any of this guy's videos before. And I only did this time just to watch Kaufman steal the show and skimming through it. I still don't get this guy's appeal.

I'm rating the joke at 10:12

joelkazoo - 2013-05-03

When we tried to get Lloyd to show up at our local nerd convention, he demanded ,000 plus expenses, airfare, a luxury hotel room, and a 35mm screening at the local art theater (who never return his calls). This from the guy who pays his leads 300 bucks flat.

What is AVGN's appeal? The fact that he's getting laid on a regular basis gives his fellow nerds hope.

The joke @ 10:57 gets my 5 stars.

sosage - 2013-05-03

LJ: I realize the rest of POETV is too cool to admit to liking anything AVGN, but I really enjoyed his early episodes (TMNT, Spider-Man and his early Halloween specials are my favorites). The over the top frustration he showed for certain parts (or the entirety) of these games was relatable. Plus, there was this "guy just throwing these things together for fun in his 1-bedroom apartment" aspect, which made me want to root for him doing bigger things. I even bought two of his DVDs.

I think what happened is that at some point A) he started trying to appease the people giving him mixed retarded criticism, which ran the gamut of "you're not being serious enough" to "you're not being funny enough" to "you're not cussing enough" to "you're cussing too much" to "you got fact (XYZ) wrong, dumb fuck" to "talk more about the games, gawd!" to "we want more of the nerd, stop talking about the games so much!" to "you're not critiquing these games fair enough!"

...and B) he got tired of doing this shit. The energy in his performance has come off pretty tired, if not dead, for the last few...fuck...has it been years? That long? Anyways, like he has long passed the point where he found enjoyment in shooting these things...or at the very least it comes off like this is not as enjoyable as it was. I don't blame him for feeling that way (if he does), how long has he been doing these things?

Maru - 2013-05-03

I think his later episodes are pretty strong. The one he did on sports games is practically his magnum opus.

Side note: I knew this would get poo-pooed for being AVGN, but poe loves this troma douche. It definitely wasn't a hard sell in the hopper. This fucker had five votes three AM on a thursday, but I'm sure none of the up-voters will come in to defend it, as usual.

Quad9Damage - 2013-05-03

LJ: I used to love the Angry Video Game Nerd, wouldn't miss an episode. It was often the small moments that had me giggling, like his facial reaction to how giant-huge the Atari 5200 trackball controller was or the way he tossed the "Beat Em and Eat Em" manual over his shoulder.

I guess James Rolfe is responsible for ushering in the era of the video internet critic. When Doug Walker came in with his Nostalgia Critic, people relentlessly accused him of copying the AVGN nerd; Walker and Rolfe played up their fake rivalry in a running gag. Then Walker ended up founding an entire Blip money business of video internet critics. And I realize POETV is too cool to want to hear this either, but...some of those critics were and are still pretty funny, or at least entertaining and informative. The really good ones evolve their routines before they get stale (The Nostalgia Chick). They incredibly good ones don't have to (The Cinema Snob, Todd in the Shadows). But the good ones (emphasis on GOOD ones) are better at this than Rolfe. They have surpassed him.

Rolfe should have dropped this and moved on a long time ago. I was shocked when I visited Cinemassacre a year ago and realized he's STILL DOING Angry Video Game Nerd reviews. One can only run with the same animal anal waste and fake liquid shit jokes for so long before a swan song is overdue. The AVGN is as tired and death-cheating as "The Simpsons" at this point. I wish Rolfe would just stick to his non-AVGN material like the film retrospectives he's done. Or hell, if it's videogame related make more stuff like the Zelda chronology analysis.

No stars because I couldn't watch all of this. It's just sad now.

badideasinaction - 2013-05-03

Once the shtick was played out, the primary attractor for this sort of thing is it gives hope to socially awkward teens and twentysomethings that somehow they can be internet-famous and funny by throwing verbal poop and smug onto youtube. I go to a con that has these guys as guests and the halls are lined with fedoras, tuxedo jackets with t-shits, and random accessories, all trying to out-antics one another by being jackasses in public because "that's their persona". As I've ranted before, it's like they're cosplaying as interesting people.

It's the internet version of improv, where 95% of the audience is fellow improv people and 5% is their immediate friends, desperately hoping to be the 1 in a million who can actually get real people to attend their shows.

Nikon - 2013-05-03

LJ: I still watch and enjoy the Nerd. Hopefully his next video won't be as awful/painful/unfunny as this one.

CornOnTheCabre - 2013-05-03

i actually just started thumbing through the guy's videos a few weeks ago. his schtick can get rrrrrrrrrrreally painfully awkward, but the dude's a collector who knows his stuff and can lay down history in a fun, bite-sized way, when he's not being totally self-indulgent.

i really dug his ROB the Robot video and the one about the ultra-rare Nintendo Tournament cartridges.

but yeah this is evil trash

Cena_mark - 2013-05-03

I like the nerd. This episode was a little weak, but I'll stick up for him.

Nominal - 2013-05-04

haha@badideasinaction's dead on description of improv. I'm totally stealing "cosplaying as interesting people" to describe them and fedoras in the future.

Has anyone ever met a fedora wearer under 55 (old enough to be around when they were an actual thing) who wasn't a total douche hole?

Maru - 2013-05-04

Were people wearing fedoras in the 70s?

themilkshark - 2013-05-03

I'm watching Sgt. Kabukiman N.Y.P.D. right now.

-1 star for inappropriate description

Sexy Duck Cop - 2013-05-03

I would rather (bodily function) on a (animal's) (body part) than watch this video.

Sexy Duck Cop - 2013-05-03

(Internet comedy tip: Start with "I would rather sneeze on a gopher's tits" and work backwards from there.)

BHWW - 2013-05-03

THIS VIDEO IS FUCKING SHIT THAT FUCKING SUCKS LIKE FUCKING SHIT ARRRGHARRGGGHBLARRRRGH repeat until the end of time

Maru - 2013-05-03

we tell it like it is.

WHO WANTS DESSERT - 2013-05-03

Hitler did nothing wrong, unlike this video!

Riskbreaker - 2013-05-03

I like the nerd, to be more precise, i like James. The character do needs to dissapear for a long time. Lloyd was just not funny.

strangewink - 2013-05-04

I hate this about as much as a person can hate something without actually expending any effort. That recessive trait moron hamming it up with Kaufman makes my dick crawl up in to my body. Hate.

Chocolate Jesus - 2013-05-05

Freud POETV.
