wouldn't it be cool if the NRA was just a bunch of dudes who were safe and responsible with guns and shit

Oscar Wildcat - 2013-05-04

Well here's a guy who talks warmly of the last attempt to overthrow the federal government, and wants to train civilians to fight the federal government at some point in the future. I'm pretty sure I need to forward this information to Homeland Security; these guys need to start acting on terrorists _before_ they strike, eh?

Gmork - 2013-05-04

yeah, but anyone involved in the press apparently likes to keep the "gun nut" image SUPER FRESH in everyones minds

i agree with the people that actually DO follow that philosophy of responsibility, and fuck every other NRA member in their ass

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2013-05-04

Yeah, it's the press' fault. Not, say, the idiot in Kentucky who bought his 4-year-old a .22 who then fatally shoots his sibling. Or the attempts in various counties/towns to make gun ownership mandatory. Or the Kansas governor passing a law that attempts to nullify federal enforcement of gun laws.

It's the damn media. Someone should shoot them.

Bort - 2013-05-04

Yeah, and ever notice all those news stories about men raping women? Where are the stories about men choosing NOT to rape women?

Gmork - 2013-05-04

I didnt say anything about fault, you fucking idiot

The fault of the dead sibling resides with the parents, who left a loaded gun in the corner of the room.

How fucking dumb are you to actually try and turn it around on me? It's just because my name is gmork, or you wouldnt have reached so far and so fruitlessly.

Gmork - 2013-05-04

It takes a subject like this to really highlight your collective inability to be objective about ANYTHING ANYONE SAYS on it.

zerd: wouldnt it be nice if people really followed the nra safety guidelines on a larger scale

me: yes. the media loves to make guns seem evil by sensationalizing an obvious case of poor gun safety by the parents, allowing this to happen

the idiots on poe who think in black and white: HURF DURF GUNS ARE EVIL HAHA YOURE BLAMING THE MEDIA

me: what? the blame is with the parents, i'm just pointing out how eye-rollingly transparent the media's motives are

the rest of you idiots: HURF DURF WAYNE LAPIERRE

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2013-05-04

Once again, you're in full-on defense mode when the leaders of the NRA, the spokesmen for the gun industry and culture, are once again showing themselves to be frothing zealots.

Go on, compare gun deaths to cars or something predictable.

spikestoyiu - 2013-05-04

Oh man, I didn't even have to make a Gmork joke.

Blolf Witzer - 2013-05-04

Five for evil.

cognitivedissonance - 2013-05-04

I got them Post-Voltairean, Death of the Age of Reason Ideals of Privacy and Ownership Blues.

That guy - 2013-05-04

Disillusioned words like bullets bark
As human gods aim for their mark
Make everything from toy guns that spark
To flesh-colored Christs that glow in the dark
It’s easy to see without looking too far
That not much is really sacred

That guy - 2013-05-04

"Also, when they're ready to kill niggers and faggots and kikes, they're ready to do it"

not the onion tag

kingarthur - 2013-05-04

I lived in Coastal Mississippi and New Orleans for 18 years and never once heard the Civil War referred to as "The War Of Northern Aggression"

UNTIL.....

I moved to Oxford, Mississippi. I lived in Dallas, TX, for a bit and never heard that expression either. Further proof that all of Mississippi 20 miles north of I-10 should be nuked from orbit.

badideasinaction - 2013-05-04

Wish I could find the exact article but there was one that laid the case for most of the "Confederate traditions and pride" being revisionist history as well, and most of them were invented or popularized as "traditions" during (surprise surprise) the Civil Rights era, and has grown a foothold over the last few decades. Might explain how there's more of this bullshit, not less, as time goes on.

kingarthur - 2013-05-05

That's all true. Groups like the sons of confederate veterans didn't take hold til then. What I find odd is that the confederate bullshit is almost invisible on the coast of Mississippi despite having a "shrine" and "presidential library" in Biloxi, but you travel a little too far north of I-10 or anywhere near Memphis and the shit is everywhere.

Cena_mark - 2013-05-04

Northern aggression? The South fired the first shots at Ft. Sumpter.

Senator_Unger - 2013-05-04

Yeah, but the North MADE them do it by electing Lincoln. Kind of like when a girl dresses provocatively; the rapist didn't have any choice in the matter!

dairyqueenlatifah - 2013-05-04

History, as in, actual, fact based, record based history, is irrelevant in these arguments.

RockBolt - 2013-05-04

The War of Southern Treason

Bort - 2013-05-04

The War of Southern Picking a Fight and Getting Their Asses Kicked

Raggamuffin - 2013-05-04

The war of southern treason so as to continue owning human beings.

kingarthur - 2013-05-05

Realistically, the south never had a prayer of winning. Given my exposure to southern culture, I would guess they were fighting for their right to exploit people to death and beyond and partially out of purely mean spirited spite.

Binro the Heretic - 2013-05-04

I love the way gun nuts wave Old Glory, plaster yellow ribbon magnets on their vehicles and weep to Lee Greenwood as they honor the brave young men who go to backwards third-world countries and kill brown people to protect their freedom...then turn around and say they must be allowed to arm themselves to the teeth in order to kill those same young men in order to protect their freedom.

Stopheles - 2013-05-04

I love how they claim to be American patriots while valorizing a failed treasonous rebellion which killed American soldiers and civilians in pursuit of the continuation of the worst cause in American history.

Benedict Arnold's from my hometown. Why doesn't HE get repatriated and treated as part of my area's PROUD HERITAGE?

Gmork - 2013-05-04

i love how you have no distinction between "gun nuts" and "someone who doesnt even own a gun but supports the right for only registered, responsible owners and not the parents in this video"

makes it easy to lean back and facepalm at your hypocrisy

cognitivedissonance - 2013-05-04

Hell, if we're going for Benedict Arnold, let's repatriate Aaron Burr, without whom there wouldn't even BE a Republican party.

Seven Arts/H8 Red - 2013-05-04

It wasn't the fact the Confederate soldiers could shoot, it was the Union soldiers being generally piss-poor marksmen. The attempted joke doesn't work when you give it the wrong context, Porter.

Caminante Nocturno - 2013-05-04

Sherman shouldn't have stopped burning the South.

kingarthur - 2013-05-05

I've had fantasies about waging a modern day Sherman's march. Also, the documentary Sherman's march is pretty good.

The Mothership - 2013-05-04

Great stuff.
