This movie tried so hard to be a heavy-handed commentary that it kinda forgot to be entertaining. The Ray Liotta car scene felt like a kind of punishing, "are you not entertained?" commentary on movie violence more than anything that had an actual point in the narrative.

I also liked the choice of music while the two low-level crooks are shooting heroin: Velvet Underground's "Heroin". I liked the movie, but subtle it ain't.

You'd think after 20 years or so, Spacemen 3 would be accessible enough to use for this kind of stuff.

Gmork - 2013-05-05

Well, I may have to watch it.

Jet Bin Fever - 2013-05-06

Man Gmork. I have no idea what you're going to like anymore. I guess if it has guns in it you won't like it, but other than that I just don't know.

Gmork - 2013-05-06

I like guns, I just don't own any, or like them for their ability to kill. I like it like an archer who's never shot at anything but hay bales likes a bow. And then had to sell his bow for rent money. It's really not that had to be responsible with a gun, any more than it is with a car - you both hold immense power over life and death with very little effort on your part. Can we agree on that much? That they should be respected if they exist at all? (which they appear to at this juncture in time)

I've never liked the NRA, the only thing i've ever defended is that while a large percentage of hypocrites certainly exist within the NRA membership, it's founded on the idea that you shouldn't be a retard when handling or using a firearm. The fact that guns are treated like toys by the many people in this country who fail to mature out of middle school mentality is sad, but it shouldn't be treated any differently than people who misuse cars. Would you like some car vs gun death statistics? Let's all argue against cars now.

And no, cars aren't a necessity, humans are just lazy. Does that mean we should walk everywhere when people clearly need to be able to commute across the bay every morning for work in the city? No. People still "need" cars. At least right now, in many places where work isn't closeby. That much is a product of man's collective shortsightedness.

And in the same vein, I am not totally against gun control. Mandatory psych evaluations are A-OK by me, and even then they won't weed everyone out - but it's a good start. The responsibility of the gun owner needs to be evaluated. We can at least agree on that much, even if we can't agree on which or whether any guns should be legal to begin with.

WHO WANTS DESSERT - 2013-05-06

If this movie had been made in the 70s and the hamfisted commentary was on, say, Vietnam then you guys would be eating this shit up.

Hooker - 2013-05-06

WHO WANTS DESSERT, ladies and gentlemen!

Innocent Bystander - 2013-05-06

Vietnam is just a business.

Now fucking pay me.

Miss Henson's 6th grade class - 2013-05-06

One of the filthiest-looking movies of all time. And I'm including "The Toxic Avenger" in that evaluation.

Juice Eggs McKenna - 2014-10-26

An unfortunate waste of time and money
