So "mustering" a bunch of people into "formation" with loaded weapons is a peaceful march on DC? Good luck with that dude.

ashtar. - 2013-05-08

Uh.
Open carry is prohibited in D.C. This could get interesting.

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2013-05-08

So they'll intentionally break the law to show how law-abiding and responsible they are by breaking the law in regards to firearms.

Good luck with that, guys.

Old_Zircon - 2013-05-08

They're calling it "civil disobedience" and to be fair, as shitty as these people and their cause are, at least this is an actual act of civil disobedience. If you get a license to protest from the system you're protesting against it's kind of a joke.

Personally, I hope this ends without incident, because a conflict is EXACTLY what they want.

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2013-05-08

I'm not sure it's civil disobedience. Gathering in large groups without a permit is civil disobedience. Doing so with firearms and calling it an "armed march" (as opposed to being an "armed revolt" until the weasel in charge realized what he was actually saying) is a little different.

Old_Zircon - 2013-05-08

Yeah, agreed. That's what they've been calling it though. The rest of what I was saying was more a commentary on how ineffectual most of the "protest" stuff I've been around has been - a license to protest is a license to be ignored. Most of that stuff feels more like a convention/meet and greet/look at me party, at least in my experience.

memedumpster - 2013-05-08

When I was in DC, the snipers that lined the tops of every government building were very open about the rifles they were carrying.

I have a suspicion that these revolutionaries are going to be surprised to see those people there waiting for them.

Millard - 2013-05-08

God I hope someone hides some firecrackers in a bush as these guys walk by.

Bort - 2013-05-08

I can see it in my head: a thousand idiots pulling their guns out at the same time, all swiveling about and trying to locate the idiot with the gun. But it's okay; so long as nobody is paranoid enough to start panic-shooting, everyone will be fine.

FABIO - 2013-05-08

Hundreds of guns owners, not six inches between them.

Bort - 2013-05-08

... which means they'll be EXTRA polite.

badideasinaction - 2013-05-08

I was saying to have a contingent of armed (and suicidal) Black, Hispanic and Middle-eastern guys join the march and watch the hilarity ensue.

Bort - 2013-05-08

Now THAT'S commenter / comment synergy.

fedex - 2013-05-08

indeed

Born in the RSR - 2013-05-08

In case Civli War 2 starts and you want to get away from the fighting, might I recommend fleeing to Romania?

Yes, Romania! Smoke anywhere!

Romania! No guns, just farm equipment.

Romania! It's like the rest of Europe, but horse-drawn.

Romania! You can sleep on my couch!*

*("My" couch has not yet been been purchased due to lack of funds, the couch as such is a possible future assets scheduled to be installed within the next two trimesters.

FreeOJ can invoke dibs on the couch if he so chooses.

If you seek refuge before the installation of the couch, a sleeping bag can be provided.)

jangbones - 2013-05-08

I also imagine the employment options are better

Jet Bin Fever - 2013-05-08

Hell, if it comes to that, I can buy you a couch.

poorwill - 2013-05-08

I think we should all pitch in and buy a couch for Born in the RSR. Do they sell furniture on the poeTV store?

Old_Zircon - 2013-05-08

Only if it starts with a zero.

Old_Zircon - 2013-05-08

I forget which one of you said I could get platonically gay married to him for Canadian citizenship, but it's starting to sound like a better idea every day.

Space Odin - 2017-08-12

How do I say, "it's okay, I know Sergiu?"

Gmork - 2013-05-08

Holy shit anyone who would walk around in public just to test the "open carry" law is a fucking asshole. Especially guys who go near the president or official buildings just to make a "point". I think we can agree on that. It's common sense not to bring guns around the fucking government's vital points, as a civil goddamned respect.

cognitivedissonance - 2013-05-08

Dude, if you think it's anything other than blatant intimidation, you don't really get what it's about. "Take away our phallic pea shooters, and we'll kill you." It has nothing to do with anything other than that.

Gmork - 2013-05-08

You're an idiot.

Miss Henson's 6th grade class - 2013-05-08

I know that Gmork gets a lot of criticism around here, but if most gun advocates were as sensible as he sounds in this post, we'd have on less topic to discuss at PoeTV.

Nominal - 2024-02-21

ha ha, fat Gmork simping for future Jan 6 insurrectionists.

CLEARLY killing officials was not on their mind!

Thank god local laws banned their stupid guns, just like all guns should be.

kingarthur - 2013-05-08

LOLbertarians. Who can take these idiots as anything less than potential shooters with god complexes?

Jet Bin Fever - 2013-05-08

If we don't exercise our rights in the most obnoxious, blatant ways ALL THE TIME they will be taken from us! Its just logical!

Senator_Unger - 2013-05-08

Every time I see a soldier, I yell "I will not quarter you at my house!" Just in case they were getting any funny ideas.

Miss Henson's 6th grade class - 2013-05-08

This man's intent gaze and rushed vocal delivery suggests that he is a wise, balanced individual whose ideas are cogent and worth listening to.

Spoonybard - 2013-05-09

Remember when those union guys knocked down a tent and allegedly some of them had pocket knives, and the media characterized them as an armed mob?
