She's not racist, though. She favorited a bunch of videos by a black man, sho shoe couldn't possibly be racist:

"So she"

Cube - 2013-05-09

No, I think sho shoe is correct.

Jet Bin Fever - 2013-05-09

This is really disturbing somehow.

Old_Zircon - 2013-05-09

Between her channel and her husband's channel, there are about 10 videos of the, shooting this thing.

Pillager - 2013-05-09

Can't really say I'm surprised.

Old_Zircon - 2013-05-09

Years ago a co-worker loaned me The Zombie Survival Guide and my impression was that it was a kind of a weird libertarian survivalist manifesto for nerds. Unfortunately the intervening 7 years or so have done nothing but prove me right again and again.

By modern zombie standards, the cop at the end of NOTLD would be the hero.

Old_Zircon - 2013-05-09

actually that doesn't hold together if he's a cop, the natural enemy of the lolbertarian (until they need one), but also I can't remember if he's cop or one of the roving rednecks. I'm talking about the guy who shoots the male lead, obviously.

bah, whatever.

cognitivedissonance - 2013-05-09

Dude, my NAME is Max Brooks. I work in the comic book/tabletop gaming industry. Whenever somebody hears my preferred name, they come and ask me about my Zombie Survival Guide.

I have multiple Vampire: The Requiem credits to my name, I'm pretty sure White Wolf hired me sight unseen thinking I was Mel's son.

PlusDome - 2013-05-09

to be fair zombies are Haitian.

Gmork - 2013-05-09

Trying to figure out why shooting a zombie mannequin/thing is somehow negative against gun owners. Did he say something overtly racist? Did he call it a nigger zombie? Maybe I didn't catch that part. All I heard was a southern accent and a him rattling off whatever gun/round it was he was using and the usual masturbatory LOOK WHERE I GOT 'IM stuff.

Is it because the head is shaped somewhat like Obama's? Im pretty sure that's just a dumb bleeding zombie target you can order over the internet. Who knows maybe he had an obama target and spray painted it before deciding to air it on youtube. That would make this more interesting.

Gmork - 2013-05-09

Did more looking.. okay so yeah.

Apparently it's strikingly similar to obama because it's supposed to be. Forget what I said, benefit of the doubt rescinded for this guy.

I _thought_ it looked a bit similar to obama under that awful spraypaint coating.

Old_Zircon - 2013-05-09

I didn't actually make the "Rocky/Barack" connection at first, and wasn't giving them full credit for just how shameless they're being about it.

Gmork - 2013-05-09

oh wow, apparently I missed a lot of "news" about this. how embarrassing

EvilHomer - 2013-05-09

I burned Bush in effigy. Twice, even.

Bort - 2013-05-09

"Forget what I said, benefit of the doubt rescinded for this guy."

How much more looking did you have to do, to figure out that a target that looks like Obama might in fact be of interest to people who, on some level, would like to shoot Obama?

"I'm pretty sure that's just a dumb bleeding zombie target you can order over the internet."

And now you know there's a demographic of people who, on some level, would like to shoot Obama.

I understand you want to give benefit of the doubt to gun owners -- and I agree it makes sense to do so on the general abstract level -- but then there's this fringe who command all the attention because they could actually go violently nuts with the right incitement. Kind of like I don't worry so much about "Muslims" as I do the Muslim nutcases who would love to tell their grandkids about the time they set off a bomb in Washington DC or Oslo Norway.

Old_Zircon - 2013-05-09

I love how the white woman has natural skin tone but the Obama target is kind of moldy Hulk green, because that way it isn't racist. I haven't seen their other models but I'm making an educated guess that they're all natural white skin tones.

Old_Zircon - 2013-05-09

Also guns are fun as hell and as long as someone else is providing the guns, ammo and location, and aren't idiots, I'm down to go out with them and shoot inanimate, manmade objects of nearly kind any time, but that doesn't for a moment change any of my opinions about gun control, gun culture or the gun industry.

Gmork - 2013-05-09

I acknowledge the existence of gun nuts, and that there are far too many who fit into that category of unstable and radical, Bort.

Zircon, do you have space in your brain for the possibility not everyone who has a gun or shoots them is part of a "gun culture". A "gun culture" is the kind of town in texas where it's traditional to give your five-year old a hunting rifle so he can accidentally shoot his kid sister in the head. That, to me, is what gun culture means - the proliferation of this ideology, which is something you don't get a membership card for automatically at Big 5 when you purchase a gun.

cognitivedissonance - 2013-05-09

The love you take is equal to the love you make. You love things designed to kill other things. You can couch it in all the feel-good personal rights issues you like, but it would be EXACTLY equivalent to walking around carrying a bag of mustard gas, "just in case". Mustard gas is interesting, and who can deny that it is a triumph of man's engineering skill? Are you SURPRISED when people want you away from their children and out of public spaces? Are you really, truly, honestly convinced that the people who want you and your bag of mustard gas away from their children are just misinformed?

You are free to step away from your bag of mustard gas at any time. Until then we will not invite you to barbecues.

Ursa_minor - 2013-05-09

Dude, shut up, it's not at all like carrying a bag of mustard gas. You can't shoot targets with mustard gas. Using mustard gas doesn't take skill and practice, and using mustard gas is most likely not very fun. Biathalons would be a terrible, depression affair. I grew up with poor families who had to actively hunt simply to put food on the table. Talk about false equivalency, christ.

cognitivedissonance - 2013-05-09

Ah, so they're encouraged to carry death machines around, instead of just having fewer kids. I see. Do they not really understand how food stamps work? Or are they too busy spending the food stamps on energy drinks, gummy bears and Lunchables after the meth cook-off?

I see.

cognitivedissonance - 2013-05-09

So standard conservative arguments get flipped on their ass the second the word "gun" comes up.

Four years railing about healthcare, IGNORED the second they need to blame lack of mental healthcare funding on something distract them from gun control.

Thirty years of railing about welfare abuse, IGNORED the second they need to worry about whether the poor can feed themselves to distract them from gun control.

If we could only just swing this onto banking abuses somehow. But nevermind, the whole thing is about scary half-Irish man in office anyway.

Absolutely, I might not have been clear enough about that in the post you're responding to, but I said "and aren't idiots" to explicitly differentiate.

Gmork - 2013-05-10

Believe it or not, cognitive, people less than 100 years ago actually shot and ate deer as a means of keeping their family fed. My grandmother did this.

My grandmother also had to save her own life after accidentally stumbling too close to where a bear cub was in the woods - she shot the charging mother about ten yards from her, square in the skull with a bolt action rifle.

So yeah I kind of owe my existence to the fact my grandma used guns for a constructive purpose (gasp! perish the thought!)

Old_Zircon - 2013-05-10

A lot of things that were practical 100 years ago aren't practical now.

cognitivedissonance - 2013-05-10

A hundred years ago, they hung black people for amusement at Sunday picnics and gave cocaine to crying babies.

Your argument is dumb.

Senator_Unger - 2013-05-09

Having a bunch of crack shots didn't win the war for them the first time, what makes them think it will work the second time?
