I would be in favor of Data-centric Trek.

I had an idea years ago for a spin off called "Worf," that would have put Worf on Earth, having had to take a desk job with the Federation, so that he could care for his ailing parents (he'd been raised by humans, you'll remember). The entire show would have been Worf, just being Worf, and trying to adjust to life in the suburbs. The neighbor's dog poops on his lawn, Worf challenges him to a bat'leth duel. Worf gets invited to play a game of touch football with the neighborhood dads, he accidentally kills a couple of them. You get the idea. It would have been gold.

Amen. Data carried that show - hell, he carried the whole franchise. Worf was good, too, and Picard had his moments, but all you really need is Data. Well, Data, and that one scene with Troi eating the ice cream.

Data doesn't sleep, I assume he has enough free time to have a second job somewhere.

I am no fan of Worf. Michael Dorn is a fine actor and he did well with what the role had provided, but splitting up Mr. Spock into "Alien" and "Rational" and making them into two separate characters destroyed the beautiful elegance of the Enterprise as metaphor for the human psyche.

And don't get me started on the bizarre need to split McCoy up into two women and an adolescent boy. And Kirk into "Browbeating Shakespearean Protocol Droid" and "Walking Penis". Too damn many characters on that show, too many people to pay attention to.

Let's not even discuss Guinan.

Michael Dorn is not a fine actor. The only thing he ever did competently was Worf, and that is because the roll called for a constant surly monotone.

I think you're overanalyzing this (which marks the first time ever that someone overanalyzed Star Trek on the internet.)

TNG's cast was not just a dilution of the Kirk/Spock/McCoy trio. In fact the creators went out of their way to avoid replicating the first ship's dynamics, because they knew it would be pointless. That's why on TNG you have a gruff, well-read diplomat as captain instead of a horny space cowboy, and they stuck a Klingon on the Enterprise bridge after his species spent the entirety of the original series trying to eat Kirk's pancreas.

I really liked the guy who played Han Solo.

I once thought of a comedy themed Star Trek show called "I Married a Klingon" which would basically just be a ripoff of Modern Family but in the future, where three human families have married Vulcan, Klingon, or Ferengi spouses.

I thought of a Klingon wife married to Lieutenant Barclay, who basically lives to be whipped, issuing challenges to bake sale moms and capturing renegade stray cats for pies (along with earthworms which she raises with the Ferengi dude next door).

Dinner parties would include a friendly game of charades which ultimately leads to bat'leth duals.

Fund the Worf and Data and Barclay sitcoms please.

Michael Dorn was also in Westwood's Dune game and he did a fine job there.

Also, this scene is just a Klingon pratfalling, which I think is like 50% of the humour on this show. I probably should have gone with one star.

It is a metaphor for the struggle towards enlightenment: pride and foolishness drive you to challenge the imperturbable and immovable cosmos, and your efforts rebound on you painfully. It is only then that you gain new understanding.
