I'm pretty sure the circuit breaker the toaster was plugged into would have been thrown, i.e., kitchen lights would likely have gone out.
I find it hard to believe too, but I also vaguely remember something in physics class about toaster coils holding a shit ton of amperage, so I cant be certain.

that really doesn't explain anything that happened in this video. it's just saying something plugged in but not "on" is still an electrical hazard...no shit.

I once threw a knife into a space heater, while the results were less dramatic i believe i learned the same lesson as these guys.
God damn it, I read the video title as a friendly suggestion, "Why don't you put a knife in a toaster?" Fuck you, video.
