My girlfriend's cat just broke an antique heirloom vase this morning. Just slapped it right off the dresser because it was bored, looked at us like "yeah?"

I was impressed.

What's shocking is all 50 cats gathering at 3 am once a week in a circle and talking in hushed whispers.

"leading cat scientists"

I'm going to call bullshit on "multicat homes = cats are evolving". Okay, everything's always evolving, but these guys even admit that cats have congregated around grain stores since antiquity to go after rodents, which can't be too far removed from the modern multicat home. How about ... cats are adaptable, and will get along in small areas if there is no real competition for resources.

Five stars nonetheless.

It could also be that people are breeding cats out of their aggressive traits and tendencies by selecting individuals with more placid, kitten-like misdemeanors - not counting the kittens from uncontrolled breeding standards.

It's kinda both evolution and selection, since the cats that are more docile are more likely to get to have offspring more often. Though the most successful adaptation would be the ability to grow back your neutered nads.

On a depressing note, the humans that have the most kids are dumb sports stars, horrible parents, and rednecks...

The show even says that, if a kitten doesn't get to know humans inside a window of a few weeks, it goes feral. So cats aren't even losing their "feral genes", they just have the ability to be domesticated under the right circumstances, probably the same as cats since Sumerian times. Or, if they ARE losing those genes, it's up to science to show that it's happening.

"kinda both evolution and selection"

I think I know what you're trying to say, but FYI, selection is the method and evolution is the result. But your point is that the existence of homes willing to take in multiple cats serves as a new evolutionary pressure, yes? I just don't see it as a new pressure, what with farm cats existing for centuries now. When mankind went all agrarian and grain stores meant easy hunting, that's probably when the new evolutionary pressure arose.
