"Paul Harrison 4 weeks ago

You see your position creates an odd dichotomy - namely in order to make an assertion over their quality one must have read them - but to have read them, by your definition, makes you vacuous.

So one cannot assert any opinion over their quality without becoming the very thing that is ridiculed."

DEAR ME, MY MONOCLE!

Innocent Bystander - 2013-06-20

Eh. It's mostly just one dude endlessly debating three or four other guys.

RocketBlender - 2013-06-20

I don't care how many people are involved, that comment section really is solid gold.

Caminante Nocturno - 2013-06-20

Why does everyone on this site have such godawful tastes in standup comedy?

Bort - 2013-06-20

I'm always on the lookout for good comics, whom do you recommend?

baleen - 2013-06-20

Yes, I'm really curious. Who knocks it out of the park for you CN?

OxygenThief - 2013-06-20

He likes Kon from Bleach.

Didn't watch the video, read the comments. Stars are for comments.

Just so you guys know, the most recent asthmatic slapfight between Paul Harrison et al is just the tip of the iceberg. This thing has been going on for years; there's a bit of a dry spell between 6-10 months ago, but keep going back and it gets awesome again.

My favorite one so far:

"NormanArches 1 year ago

1. Hello!

2. I didn't write 'upholding...principle' so that's something else you appear to have read and not understood at a basic level.

3. Sounds like you have taken an undergrad course in the Modernist Novel at Uni and before that enjoyed H.P. Well done you! It reads like a first year reading list.

4. Was it Jasper or Terence you read? Freudian camisole?

5. I don't count Philip Pullman as being vacuous like J P R. His children's lit appears to be of a different order, like that of Hughes.

Bye"

"First year reading list"? Oooooh noooo he did-dent!

Old_Zircon - 2013-06-20

The recent stuff is better if you imagine Stephen Fry reading all of Paul Harrison's posts.

What I want to know is, how? How did this happen? Not why, we all know why, because nerds on the internet is why enough for anything, but - how - exactly, did an obscure video with less than 100k views attract such a large crowd of equally pretentious blowhards? Repeatedly, and presumably, independently of each other?

Paul Harrison has done most of the recent work, but near as I can tell, there's at least a half dozen other wristflappers engaged in three or four separate (but equally!) pedantic fagdances. Are they... are they all sock puppets? Of two people, or maybe just one, a bleary eyed English major whose courseload induced crank habit has sent him spiraling slowly but steadily into madness? Are they all coming from the same website, a mysterious Reddit for 20-somethings who wear tweed jackets with leather elbow patches and read Foucault at the local coffeeshop, taking great pains to hold the cover up so you KNOW what a smarty-smarty book they're reading? Is it that the kids who grew up on Harry Potter are just now hitting college and want to flex their brain muscles in the traditional university nerd preening display? And that the sort of people who like this standup comedian are also the sort of people who'll spend a year and a half trying to convince one another that Harry Potter is / is not comparable to William Blake?

I have no bucking idea, but it's glorious.

Mr. Purple Cat Esq. - 2013-06-20

I've read like 5 or 6 of them.. All within the space of about 2 days; Shortly before the handup of my thesis. I think I was having some kind of panic attack or something! :)

Mr. Purple Cat Esq. - 2013-06-20

Also now I can point out. Most.. logical.. inconsistencies... ever!!
