Gmork, C'MON DOWN!

zerdzer - 2013-06-29

no thanks i'll keep my nice semi-automatic glock with its 20 round magazine thank you (because criminals will keep theirs regardless of the laws you make to ban them)

SolRo - 2013-06-29

They also have PCP, so they dont feel pain.

You should start taking PCP right now.

Nominal - 2013-06-29

Are you shirtless and ripped in your fantasies?

zerdzer - 2013-06-29

how about a real discussion on the internet

instead of talking about me, why don't we talk about my argument. try to refute my main point.

i have no fantasies of having a home invasion. i don't think anybody does.

if your family was in danger because some guy who came into your house armed, would you like to cower in a corner with a phone dialing for the police, or would you like to have a fighting chance? obviously you'd like to have a gun of your own, the police aren't going to show up fast enough to stop a trigger pull.

if guns are illegal, only people who illegally acquire things will have them. so in this situation, you'd be helpless if you didn't have a gun.

SolRo - 2013-06-29

but your argument is stupid.

also, why aren't you taking PCP right now? the ability to ignore pain will make you way tougher than the criminals!

Binro the Heretic - 2013-06-29

I'll bet if we stopped gun manufacturers from mass-producing high-powered high-capacity firearms and destroyed all the ones we came across, the criminals would have a harder time getting them, too.

You do know most of them are legally purchased to begin with then sold to or stolen by criminals, right?

Cena_mark - 2013-06-29

Word. The whole "Criminals will get them anyway" nonsense is played out. Gun dorks will point out how the UK still had lots of gun crime after remaining after gun bans passed, but now their gun crimes our going down now that law enforcement has actually had time to purge the underground of illegal guns. Now gangs in the UK are resorting to using flare guns.

kingofthenothing - 2013-06-29

"I don't have any fantasies about home invasions. I don't think anyone does.

"Here's a fantasy about home invasion."

Gmork - 2013-06-29

Its amazing how little you all know.

Violent crime has not dropped in the UK. They just stab people more.

Oscar Wildcat - 2013-06-29

I have roughly the same argument for keeping guns as Zerd, with the notable difference that it is not criminals I am afraid of, but other legal gun owners. I am quite serious on this point.

memedumpster - 2013-06-29

Glocks are shit guns, and I've yet to meet a single Glock owner who should have any say in gun control. They are branded to attract the kind of people in this video.

Seriously, get a real gun.

Crackersmack - 2013-06-29

memedumpster: Please see the Glock 34, and then tell me why almost one out of three IDPA competitors uses them if they are "shit guns".

zerdzer - 2013-06-29

i can't believe somebody in here is saying bad things about glocks.

lol what next? "the AK-47 is a cheap piece of crap?"

anyways

yes, but the solution to this is not to make guns illegal period. then none of us have guns. instead, laws should be made on how guns should be kept in a home. nobody's come forward saying "you know, it's stupid kids can just steal their parent's guns and use them for something stupid, we should mandate a special kind of gun locker" or something like that. as for selling guns to criminals, guns could be more regulated; gun owners could be required licenses (and some training) to own them, and purchases would be recorded and tied to the license (like a car). this would make it much easier to deter gun crime, it'd also create a new section of bureaucracy and create a lot of jobs. if the training was extensive and rigorous, the culture of gun owners could definitely change for the better, making people into more responsible citizens.

as for destroying all "high powered, high capacity" firearms:

people seem to think that an AR-15 is a more dangerous gun than a 9mm pistol, because it has a capacity of 30 rounds and it fires a rifle-sized caliber. the truth is, handguns are easy to conceal and account for most of the murders from guns; rifles and shotguns make poor murder weapons because they are too large to surprise somebody with.

also, none of this would be a problem if america's culture wasn't a heaping pile of shit. there's other countries who have much more lenient gun laws, and they have very little crime in comparison. if we ban guns in the USA completely, people will just start stabbing each other to death.

glasseye - 2013-06-29

"I'll bet if we stopped gun manufacturers from mass-producing high-powered high-capacity firearms and destroyed all the ones we came across, the criminals would have a harder time getting them, too."

So? Even if this such a law were to be passed (which it never will), it would have a miniscule effect on gun violence. The overwhelming majority of gun violence cases are performed with regular capacity handguns.

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2013-06-29

Why do we make murder a crime? People are still going to murder. Why license cars? Criminals won't get licenses or renew their tags, so why do we pester people with that? Or burglary? People will still steal, etc., etc.

Not that I expect this to get through certain thick skulls or anything...

zerdzer - 2013-06-29

are you saying mean things about me :(

look, if you read my comment, you'd see there's sense in it

your argument is pretty goofed up: guns are not inherently bad. murder is inherently bad. burglary is inherently bad.

guns are a tool, murder and burglary are an action. please, no more straw man and ad hominem stuff

FABIO - 2013-06-29

Arguing and debating with solid points has been countless times, but it's a giant waste trying to reason with gun nuts. You always fall back on your Deathwish fantasy that dark skinned barbarians would overwhelm and rape your women if your guns are taken away. Or you pull made up statistics and conclusions about the UK along the exact same lines that shills use to argue against universal healthcare.

It was pointless reasoning with hick bigots regarding slavery, so we had to make them feel inadequate and foolish, the only thing reactionaries understand. It is pointless reasoning with hick gun nuts, so we have to make them feel inadequate and foolish about their needle dick, needle dick.

zerdzer - 2013-06-29

jesus christ what

i didn't say any of that, and no i am not a "gun nut" if i just own a pistol and want sensible regulation

and you're comparing gun ownership to slavery?

Gmork - 2013-06-30

FABIO you are a classic example of the kind of idiots on poetv that make me ashamed to be liberal

Crackersmack - 2013-06-29

When the first amendment was written the authors of the constitution could have never imagined a world where just anybody could distribute their political views to potentially millions of people without any real effort.

We need some kind of commonsense laws to restrict these abusive activities. Freedom of speech was clearly meant to apply to just actual verbal speech, and freedom of the press was meant only for people that could afford to own or rent a building full of printing equipment.

memedumpster - 2013-06-29

The Constitution is a rag that idiots like you drape over dead kids.

Crackersmack - 2013-06-29

And ridiculous hyperbole like that is what makes it so easy for many to dismiss your side of the argument.

I'll be the first to admit that if we could ban private gun ownership (or heavily restrict it so as to practically ban it) over time the consequences of violent crime would be greatly reduced.

However, that goal has to start with the repeal of the 2nd amendment since the SCOTUS has decided that citizens do in fact have a right to privately own firearms. Good luck with that.

Not to mention that repealing the 2nd would require tremendous effort and resources that could be MUCH more efficiently used to improve society if they were instead directed at numerous other, more-worthy goals (like campaign finance reform or REAL healthcare reform).

Keep tilting at that windmill if it makes you feel good though. The adults will be worrying about stuff that actually matters.

memedumpster - 2013-06-29

I don't have a side to this argument, it doesn't warrant one, I was just being sarcastic for comedic effect. Your first block of text is just wrong, like, historically wrong, by thousands of years. Your second block of text isn't even worth considering as a possible policy, it's obviously an animal territory fantasy.

I do agree that you can't ban guns at this point, though.

Crackersmack - 2013-06-29

I've heard enough of the "gun owners want kids to die" type of arguments over the last few months that I will 100% believe that someone actually thinks that way every time they say something like that. My bad.

I've also learned that the more that someone cares about gun control (whether for or against it) the bigger of a moron they tend to be, and I've tried to stay out of the whole thing for the most part. But this commercial successfully trolled me into several responses. Again, my bad.

Gmork - 2013-06-29

2000 out of 100,000 people in the UK commit violent crimes each year. 500 out of 100,000 in the US do so.

So the country with handguns being illegal have four times the number of citizens actively doing violent crime each year.

Yeah, let's follow their example.

Cena_mark - 2013-06-29

They define violent crime differently. It really isn't that high.

Gmork - 2013-06-29

No, actually, they don't. It's crime that includes violence.

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2013-06-30

Citation needed. I'm looking at the Bureau of Justice stats for the U.S. and the FBI.gov violent crime stats, and neither presents the numbers in this "X number out of 100,000 commits a violent crime," so I'd be curious as to where you're getting those totals.

kingjackhammer - 2013-06-29

The gun control debate is something propped up by capitalist overlords to set urban and rural proletarians against each other. The root cause of violence in our society is oppression and exploitation (excepting the occasional "just plain crazy" types, but they don't represent the larger picture of violence in out society.)

Oscar Wildcat - 2013-06-29

Nonsense. There are Good Guys, and Bad guys. Don't you know anything?

Pillager - 2013-06-29

So long as the NRA has countless millions of single issue voters & bottomless coffers, gun control is a pipe dream.

zerdzer - 2013-06-29

it's definitely true that the NRA is stopping progress on this. but most of the gun control schemes that are put forward are totally messed up, too.

NRA people know a lot about guns but resist most attempts at gun safety laws; however, most attempts at gun safety laws are not sensible and are made by people who know next to nothing about guns.

Pillager - 2013-06-29

I hear you.

I had to wait a few weeks for my background check to clear & take a class before I got my CC permit. I wish most states would just vet people & let them do what they'll do anyway.

Blue - 2013-06-29

If the NRA cared about your gun rights, it would have fucking written the gun control bills instead of letting various politicians set the policy piecemeal and out of ignorance.

They would support Democrats that support gun rights. They sure as fuck don't do that. They drone on and on about how Obama wants to take your guns. Nobody is trying to take your guns, but you know what?

Nobody thought the Second Amendment gave us the right to unregulated personal access to firearms, until the NRA said it enough that it became true. Americans on the left and the right agree that people have a right to personal access to firearms, but the NRA keeps insisting that the left's position is to ban all guns.

Maybe if they say it enough, it will be. The NRA's made sure that the Democrats don't have any votes to gain from supporting gun rights. Oh, and if you have a CC permit, you've participated in gun control. That's basically the nightmare that the NRA is protecting you from. This should be a non-issue.

Spaceman Africa - 2013-06-30

Feminism or gun control? Which videos have the biggest comment walls of text?

Jet Bin Fever - 2013-06-30

Hey, I liked this commercial. It's perfectly POE worthy too. All you 1 starring faggots can go fuck yourself.
