Ok, let's hear the "California Raisins aren't uncomfortably racist caricatures in hindsight" explain this.

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2013-08-05 The problem with that is you'd have to ask why hiring white guys to sound like Marvin Gaye isn't racist or why a claymation raisin was white-ified with the voice of Buddy Miles.
Not to mention there aren't any white raisins, unless they've gotten mold. There are those golden raisins out there, but nobody I know likes those.

StanleyPain - 2013-08-05 How is it racist? They're grapes. The song is "Heard it through the Grapevine", so they made them the Temptations.
I mean, gradually modifying them into more and more "urban" stereotypes over the ages is arguably racist, but when they originally appeared I didn't see anything that really struck me.

Old_Zircon - 2013-08-05 Pretty much as bad as the KKK.
|
MrBuddy - 2013-08-05 Grapes and raisins always hate black people, I thought everyone knew that.

RAISINS SHOULD ONLY BE PORTRAYED AS WHITES ANYTHING ELSE IS RACIST

5 stars for nostalgia, but I like the updated version of this concept better:

I'm a bit of a mix-a-lot completist, and I didn't know about this. Wow.

I got the whole ceramic set still.

Gmork - 2013-08-06 It was one of those "Paint these shitty white statues yourself!" things, and my auntie did an amazing job, even used silver reflective paint for the microphones. Spot-on.

Some lumps of clay have exhorted me to check out these "books" so I think I shall!

Oh shit, nostalgia city on this one. I even remembered the words.
