The burlesque revival needs to be reinvigorated by a massive influx of late 60s style go go dancing with live bands.

Or just straight up ritualistic nude dancing to space metal, like a 1971 hawkwind show.

Either way, the lack of live musicians really detracts, just like with any kind of dance that didn't come out of hip hop/disco.

Def. Sad thing is, from what I hear, strippers claim both of those dance routes. I guess that's why they stick to the traditional, but that goes into porn versus erotica, which will have me writing essays in here. There's a troupe of performers I've seen a few times, called Anna and the Annadroids; they have some burlesque type performances, but I don't think they call themselves a burlesque group. I wouldn't either. Maybe their format could be the new version?:

Burlesque performers need to start owning the fact that burlesque IS a form of stripping and that's OK.

The fact that you guys are talking about burlesque revival fondly without using such terms as "feral ham migration" and "please Azagthoth, melt these eyes from my wretched flesh" leads me to believe that it means something COMPLETELY different where you all live.

I didn't mean to imply fondness, I'm more complaining about wasted potential. It's the common flaw of revivalism in general - the parameters of the medium are so well defined that it's easy to be lazy and rely on the familiar.

That is fantastic. Now I almost want to go to a burlesque show so I can use the term feral ham migration... Almost. Maybe instead I will tie a garbage bag full of wet socks and feather boas to a ceiling fan.
