It's September, the kids are back in school, and there's already a Gagnam Style.

misterbuns - 2013-09-07

But this is great.

EvilHomer - 2013-09-06

I am going to be so sick of this in a week or so. But not now, not yet.

Also, not furry. Furries would know the sound a fox makes.

EvilHomer - 2013-09-06

(it's "yiff")

Boomer The Dog - 2013-09-06

Those silly Furries, I had to learn all that when all that when I started too. They used to have websites dedicated to teaching new Furs the Furry language, but I don't see those any more, I guess new Furs just learn from others now.

I'm so happy you're here.

Merzbau - 2013-09-07

Furry...language.

See, now I'm imagining some kind of furry version of Polari, and I know the real answer is going to be way more depressing.

Old_Zircon - 2013-09-07

Fursperanto

EvilHomer - 2013-09-07

Yeah, I remember seeing websites about Furry language, too. No clue what happened to them. But I did find a short Wikifur article on fox language:

You can find a few more neat pages under this category:

The Esperanto word for "furry" is "felsono"!

EvilHomer - 2013-09-07

Oh, well here's something interesting. It's a now-defunct introductory lesson to the "Lapine Language", which is apparently a language for Furry conventions, developed by rabbits.

I guess I mean more of a slang, Fur-specific words thrown in that could make it hard for mundanes to understand what you're talking about. I was into it when I started in Furry, and also used computer lingo too.

The language I looked at back then was 'Feral, the Furry language'. I studied it some, but didn't know anyone else who was using it to keep up with studying it.

The first animal connected language I got interested in was connected with the Koko the gorilla communications program, and it was featured in a school reader magazine, probably Scholastic, when I was in junior high.

The language was called Pleet, with its own syntax and grammar. It had simple sentences about Dogs, with little pictures of Dogs around the outside of the article, and I recall that 'Rorfu coran' was about a Dog. I brought my copy of the magazine home and had it for a while, that's another reason I remember, besides the Dogs.

Lapine is a furry slang language, too. It's not spoken by ACTUAL rabbits.

Boomer The Dog - 2013-09-08

Bunnies are always twitching their noses, I wonder what that could mean.. :)

You know that I was way into the idea of speaking with Dogs, as we barked about, but more of in a Doctor Dolittle way, like when he talked with Rufus, the judge's hound Dog in the courtroom.

I don't know if there's a connection with the character name of Rufus in the Dolittle movie, but the singer Rufus Thomas had an animal connection in a lot of his songs, he has a whole list of them with animal names and themes. He's the guy who did Walking The Dog.

I LIKE FOXES!

Boomer The Dog - 2013-09-07

Wait, that doesn't make sense, unless your size would would be such that you could take on a Fox!

Boomer The Dog - 2013-09-06

I'm dying to watch this, but can't, people must be dragging on the video so hard since it's like a virus.

longwinded - 2013-09-07

Has anyone in this family even seen a fox?

Merzbau - 2013-09-07

dementomstie - 2013-09-07

That's cool stuff that I'm going to have to take a look at Homer, I like how curious you are about different things. I haven't read a lot of Furry pages like those lately, but I was into them for the first year or so after I found the scene.

Now I feel that the old line essays are being crowded out by Furry social networking, so it's harder to find sites that read like books. Some Furs had sites that I could get lost in reading for a few hours, MegaDog then Netweiler is an example from back then, and the Werewolf and Shapeshifter's Handbook.

We have blogs though, one that's fun to read is adjectivespecies.com, multi-author, about issues that the Furry community faces.

Loganberry Bunny, I totally remember that rabbit! I'm not sure if I heard he was working on a Lapine language, but he was a presence in the scene for a while.

Yup, there was a time that if you didn't use words like 'yiff', 'fursona', 'plushie' and others, you could be seen as a mundane or at least a spy or reporter.. :) My page boomerthedog.com has an example page with some of the terms I learned, get ready for 1998 if you go there.

I finally got to see the video, I do like it a lot, especially the dancing anthro fox at the end. I have a feeling that it's way over exposed in Furry already, so I'll play Stonehenge instead.
