White knights point is invalid.
Dont rag on someone cus they want to buy and play gta5. That game has a *very* broad appeal and is a decent game according to reports.

EvilHomer - 2013-09-19

A pack of overweight nerds leaping to the defense of the lone woman within a quarter mile sounds like white knighting to me.

Hooker - 2013-09-19

So you think no two people out of a group of ten or so, who are waiting in line and are having to wait longer because someone is being a cockhead, would not, after a prolonged period of not saying anything, wouldn't begin also yelling at the guy if it was a man behind the counter? Because I've seen it happen plenty of times with men.

EvilHomer - 2013-09-19

Gays can white knight too.

NancyDrewFan123 - 2013-09-19

Evil Homer, shhh. Shhh.

RocketBlender - 2013-09-20

I think he meant to say 'The white knight's point is invalid." for giving the guy shit about being a nerd in the story buying a video game, in which yeah, it's not a really good insult, you're in line for the same thing buddy.

She really could have dealt with him a little better, but it sounds like the whole problem was he didn't want to show his ID to 1. prove he's of age to buy the game (a law around here, and if it's not in his state, Gamestop cracks down on employees caught doing it.) and 2. Prove that he is actually himself, which is more important than you'd think when a store is giving everyone copies that were already rung up to save time.

So yeah, she could have toned it down a bit, but the guy sounds like an idiot and she was probably out of patience when the camera started.

Also, EvilHomer and Hooker are both right. It's probably a combination of being held up in like and girl in a game store.

Hooker - 2013-09-20

I refuse to accept that the bar is so low for "white knighting" that telling an idiot to shut up qualifies.

OxygenThief - 2014-01-16

You only call someone out on being a douche if there is chance you will get a grateful hand job from someone in the service industry.

Hooker - 2013-09-19

Yeah, that's setting the bar pretty low for "white knight."

Five stars for the dramatic reveal at the end: cargo shorts and sneakers.

klingerbgoode - 2013-09-19

She's professional, he's a baby. What else is new?

EvilHomer - 2013-09-19

She was calm and collected throughout the exchange, but she was also very clearly being antagonistic.

We don't see much of what happened and it's not entirely clear why the customer and employee are at odds, It looks as if the customer forgot his ID, which led the employee, overworked and stressed out on account of the GTA, to get snippy and sarcastic. Maybe there was more to the exchange? I don't know. But having worked retail before, I do know that the customer is always right, even when he's wrong, and invoking the Personal Army statute at the end there was clearly over the line.

You wait until the customer is OUT of the store before you say something like that.

robotkarateman - 2013-09-19

GameStop hires people who are passionate about games, so GameStop ends up with a lot of employees who have a chip on their shoulder about what's the best game/console/designer/controller/Final Fantasy girl. That condescension spills over onto the employees who aren't as aspy about their games. She strikes me as very much the latter - a career retail employee who's not necessarily a game freak. Sometimes they can be worse because they're not defending anything, they just look down on the customers

We had a rule at our store - be informative, but not opinionated. It came with a 2 warning limit. Don't argue with customers on the clock.

sosage - 2013-09-19

I think she hit her volatile, "I don't give a fuck anymore about this fucking job, these fucks and their fucking games" stage and he hit his highly unstable, "the way I interact online is how I am going to talk to this person in real life" stage.

Aelric - 2013-09-19

This cost, including marketing, 265 million to make. It's made over 800 million opening day. It's projected to make 1.5 billion in it's run internationally. And it's only on xbox right now, I believe (right? I hear ps3 is later.) I'm dumbfounded that GTA still has that sort of draw.

Expect another wave of sub-par clones in the next few years, I guess.

spikestoyiu - 2013-09-19

No, it's definitely out on both right now.

Aelric - 2013-09-19

Well, either way, goddamn.

RocketBlender - 2013-09-19

Both consoles, PC comes later.

Scrimmjob - 2013-09-19

This video is a good example of why I'd prefer to get the digital version of a game, and skip the midnight sale.

Caminante Nocturno - 2013-09-19

Yup.

sosage - 2013-09-19

...or just wait 8 hours to purchase one of the billions of copies to hit Target/Best Buy/Walmart/Sears/Walgreens/7-11/Costco/Sam's Club/K-Mart/Rite Aid/CVS...

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2013-09-19

As strange as the transition from physical media to Steam was, I don't think I'd ever feel comfortable buying a AAA game from 7-11. It'd be like preparing a dinner party for the President and buying "fine champagne" from Wal-Mart.

Hooker - 2013-09-19

You mean awesome?

klingerbgoode - 2013-09-22

or just amazon?

Cena_mark - 2013-09-19

That's fantastic.

RocketBlender - 2013-09-19

Okay guys, I think I'm old here, and want to check with the rest of you that are playing GTAV. Fair warning, everything after this is going to be spoilers for the game?

Are Trevor's antics supposed to be funny to me? Because in all honesty, I'm really starting to hate the fuck. I hate how he treats his own, refuses to give them their fair share of a a job, outright abuses many of them, and that whole mission segment where he completely trashes Floyd's girlfirend's apartment, writing messages on her walls, trashing everything in sight, fucking the stuffed animals is just disgusting and I keep wishing I could just leave him for dead mid-heist.

Is all of his shit supposed to be funny and I'm just too old to get the joke, or do you guys hate him too?

klingerbgoode - 2013-09-22

He's heinous but I think his over-the-top antics are hilarious at times. Rockstar have gone on the record to say he's the personification of the carnage-loving GTA player--the type who avoids the story and just kills civilians left and right.

Of course, I haven't reached the much-talked about torture mission yet, so I can't say if I'll still like him after that.

klingerbgoode - 2013-09-22

It helps if you dress him in a checkered purple suit.

Jet Bin Fever - 2013-09-20

I'm glad I don't work at a card/game store. This stuff is an occupational hazard.
