Any youtube legal experts? How can these full movie postings get away with it but my 10 second clips always get taken down inside of fifteen minutes?

chumbucket - 2013-09-27

Maybe you're not bringing in enough shitty advertising traffic.

Quad9Damage - 2013-09-27

Because Internet copyright law is convoluted and seemingly made up on the fly, nobody understands how it works or what the deal is with content providers, but if your 10 second clip or ancient anime trailer or whatever is yanked and you try to protest it or seek support, how dare you, you fucking thief.

Jessica is number one on my list of Western Cartoons I'd Gently Caress. Where is she on yours?

baleen - 2013-09-27

A former boss of mine's GF was Amy Irving, one of the voices of Jessica. She sounds just like her in person. It was alarming to say the least.

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2013-09-27

Amy Irving only did the singing part of Jessica's voice. Kathleen Turner did the actual speaking parts.

Five because adults didn't seem to realize how lewd this movie was when they took their children to see it, back when first came out.

Also, Jessica Rabbit left me with unreasonable and unhealthy standards to try and live by.

EvilHomer - 2013-09-28

I can empathize with that! When I was a kid, I had to cope with Superman, Wolverine, Liono, Master Splinter, Duke from GI Joe, Goku, Rambo, and Sub-Zero. Life is cold, cruel, and hard when society sets unreasonable standards for us. :(

But you and me, we both turned out OK in the end. Right?

EvilHomer - 2013-09-28

Oh and also Ryu, but I think he was a positive standard all things considered.

I actually agree with that, kind of.

The thing about the 'over-muscular' male heroes was that in their given contexts, there was nothing specifically gendered about their jobs, and their musculature actually benefited their given professions (with all of those characters ultimately being iterations of 'soldier'). A muscular soldier is a useful soldier, and that's irrespective of the gender divide.

Jessica Rabbit was a lust object - little more than a cocktease-for-hire. The other female characters in the movie (with the possible exception of Delores) were all basically iterations or parodies of that theme, implying that a woman is essentially either an iteration or parody of that 'cocktease' theme.

In Roger Rabbit, in contrast, men of many body types can be anything from mogul, to detective, to movie star, to cop, and so on, and so on.

I agree that men have been hypersexualized as well, but it just doesn't compare to the sexualization of women. By all means, be offended, and rally against the oversexualization of both genders, but it's very different from the male side of the equation to the female.

That said, cartoons that affected us as kids are a world of difference between the cartoons that we* watched as kids, and those that kids are exposed to now. The current generation is specifically getting many better messages than those back then.

*Facing facts, you're either a proud manchild, and likely still watch those cartoon, or you at least play that persona on POETV, - either way, you likely still watch these damn kid's shows. I'm using 'we' very loosely here.

This would never get made today...

Jane Error - 2013-09-27

Apparently Bob Hoskins was chosen because he's one of the few actors who can convincingly stare into space and make it seem like he's looking at something.

boner - 2013-09-27

I do that at work all the time.
