Incidentally. Where does everybody go for their news? I'm looking for a decent news aggregate site. With some decent forums with people who might be able to provide comment to a science story or misanthropes debating politics. Preferably one that doesn't encourage a bunch of standard forum bullshit with signatures and linkbacks to facebook or whatever the hell else is making the internet seem so clogged with morons these days. If anybody mentions reddit you're going on my dry erase board shit list.

Mostly Fark and the Gawker sister sites. Although in the case of Gawker, I avoid the comment section.

This is mostly the case with Kotaku, since every article has a top comment wanting everyone to know how unimpressive the article is.

www.sensibleerection.com.

No, I'm not kidding. They have boob posts and stuff, but they also have quite a lot of science/politics, a comment ratings system, and a decent community. The main conservative whack-job is incpenners, and he spends most of his time going after a regular poster named sanepride.

Talking Points Memo is pretty good if you're leftish, a newsblog.

Wonkette, but that's because I long ago gave up on life

According to Justin Amash (TP Republican from Michigan and Ron Paul acolyte), who I follow on Facebook, the Senate's budget exceeds the budget set by the sequester, so everything is a-ok on the GOP end. They are just keeping the sequester alive, everything is normal, no shutdown here.

I think the guy is a flaming heap of shit, but he updates his status as he votes, which is very good policy. He's one of the youngest reps in history and he spends a lot of time reaching out to young people. He has really captures the rebel flame for a lot of young libertarian types, and I take that kind of thing seriously, despite knowing that he is a party apparatchik in training.

He has actually personally responded to my Facebook posts, I mean, what the fuck.

All of them.

Konversekid - 2013-10-06

Democracy Now, The Real News Network and Truthdig are all really great sources for news.

M-DEEM - 2013-10-04

I used to check out a site that had all of the news I wanted. Problem was, they never had any of the news I needed. Can't remember what it was called...

M-DEEM - 2013-10-04

I'll never use reply. ever

The Mothership - 2013-10-05

So, I found me a whore with a face just like yours after several gallons of porter.

One of my coworkers thinks the damage caused by the shutdown will be a small price to pay in order to prevent Obama from giving healthcare to "people who won't work."

I need a different job.

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2013-10-05

Find out from your coworker where they're hiding all of these jobs that people won't take. I'd be curious to hear where they are and what the salary range is like.

Binro the Heretic - 2013-10-05

Oh, don't you know? Of course "those people" don't want to work, not when they can make ,000 per year on welfare.

This, according to another asshole I have to work with who got the figure from FOX News (naturally) who sort of got that figure from Alabama Rep. Jeff Sessions. Sessions was trying to illustrate how "inefficient" the Federal government was by adding up all Federal "social" programs and dividing it up by the number of people receiving assistance.

Of course, Sessions also added in things like Medicaid, Pell grants and other services that don't translate to actual cash going to people in need. FOX took the figure and reported "The Federal Government spends ,000 per year on each welfare recipient" which became "every welfare recipient gets ,000 per year!" amongst the TEA party bloggers, Free Republic and other hateful shitheads.

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2013-10-06

Not that it would do anything to alter their worldview, but it'd be interesting to do something similar with every subsidy we give to already profitable industries and divide that by the number of CEOs.
