The Democrats are responsible for the Republican being the only ones that have a set of keys to the house and refusing to open the door.

cognitivedissonance - 2013-10-13

HOORAY FALSE EQUIVALENCY

I am not sure you noticed the part about this rule being adopted on October 1st, the day after the Shutdown was begun? It was a rules change made specifically to make John Boehner an unaccountable autocrat. So I'm not really sure where or how you can make the Democrats responsible for exactly the one thing the Republicans have been telling us Obama would do since November 7th, 2008.

Hooker - 2013-10-13

And I'm not really sure how you read my comment as sincere.

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2013-10-14

POE's law. Satire is still pretty dead, requiring a lot more effort to be distinguished from actual opinions.

cognitivedissonance - 2013-10-14

Because it's a commonly used misdirection used elsewhere, all over the internet?

Hooker - 2013-10-14

Okay. It can be my fault you read that so wrong.

Ocyrus - 2013-10-14

You're right, it is your fault. A little more effort with the composition of satirical statements is required. We can all hear your mouthbreathing, but none of us can hear the tone and inflection intended in your post.

Hooker - 2013-10-15

I'll add five emoticons next time I make a ludicrous statement just for you, Ocyrus.

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2013-10-13

He basically closed the safety valve that's made a boiler explosion far more likely and then blames the presence of heated water for the imminent danger.

Cube - 2013-10-13

They say religion was invented to control the masses. Now, how is politics different...

RocketBlender - 2013-10-13

What do you guys use to keep up with all the bullshit that's been going on in politics lately? Ever since poe-news closed, I really haven't found anything similar I like for global or even local news.

Bort - 2013-10-14

I try HuffPo, Salon, and Slate, but they really don't hold up.

I'm fond of the Slacktivist blog (http://www.patheos.com/blogs/slacktivist/), but the community there can be pretty insufferable.

kingarthur - 2013-10-14

nakedcapitalism.com is pretty damn good, but their coverage caters to the ins and outs and evils of finance and its role in politics.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2013-10-14

Politico is also good. I read that and HuffPo quite a bit.

I have reached a point where I am beyond rage. I just mourn for the nation I am from and wonder if it will ever regain a grip on its economy and oust those thousands of traitors who are keeping the middle and lower class from living wages.

Also: I expect violence. A lot of violence.

Chocolate Jesus - 2013-10-14

Huffpo stinks, it's an ad machine for impressionable millennials.

Fark.com/politics is pretty decent as an aggregator -- just don't visit their main site.

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2013-10-14

I like TalkingPointsMemo.com, and if your politics lean left and towards academia, there's http://gerrycanavan.wordpress.com/.

http://politicalprof.tumblr.com/ is also pretty good.

The Mothership - 2013-10-14

That's really quite clever; so how did that get passed, 2 in the morning on a Sunday by the only guy in the house?

Nominal - 2013-10-14

I would also like to know how they got away with passing this. How is it not the same as disbanding the very idea of Congress and consolidating all the power into one man?

Sanest Man Alive - 2013-10-15

I'm curious, does the Supreme Court have no say about whether a House resolution like this, especially in the current context, is constitutional or not (as opposed to a law affecting the entire nation), or is it just still made up of hateful mummies who refuse to give a shit about anyone living?

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2013-10-15

I believe it's the latter.

memedumpster - 2013-10-14

TrEAson.

RocketBlender - 2013-10-14

I tried forever to find a video of this or some way to verify it's an actual poll a news station did, but I couldn't. So instead I'm just going to post this image here and hope for a few laughs.

Jet Bin Fever - 2013-10-14

Yep, time to scrap the thing and start over.

Blue - 2013-10-14

It just occurred to me that the Soviet Union probably had it's own Texas or Louisiana or Florida. I kind of wonder now what it was like to see the shit states become neighboring countries with nuclear arsenals.

Nominal - 2013-10-14

A lot of people wonder what it would be like if the country had just let the South go.

I imagine they would turn into our very own North Korea. A nation of crazy wealthy plutocrats keeping the impoverished masses in line by whipping up insane zeal before blackmailing their wealthier and better run neighboring democracy with threats of armageddon.

Jet Bin Fever - 2013-10-14

I meant the congress, not the country, but ok. Haha.

chumbucket - 2013-10-14

Broken beyond any repair.

jaunch - 2013-10-14

They're really just horrible people aren't they? It goes beyond partisan fighting. They're objectively bad people.

gravelstudios - 2013-10-14

My father is a corrections officer in a prison. From the stories he tells me, I've come to the conclusion that for the most part, the kind of person who wants to be a corrections officer is not the kind of person YOU want to be a corrections officer. I'd imagine it's a similar problem.

RockBolt - 2013-10-14

Elections are the process that separates the able from the willing, and goes with the willing
