I dream of the word "of", lost, wandering, forever, in night.

DriverStabby - 2013-10-25

I remember reading some years ago that this was a viral marketing scheme. I thought it had died out.

Today, I can't find the article on Snopes again. Only a message board discussion that doesn't go anywhere:

http://message.snopes.com/showthread.php?t=52564

I must have dreamed the whole thing.

Scrimmjob - 2013-10-25

from the web:

"some people began investigating the origin of Thisman.org and identified Italian sociologist and marketing strategist Andrea Natella as the creator of the website. It was also revealed that Natella runs an advertising agency called Guerilla Marketing, which designs subversive hoaxes and creates weird art projects exploring pornography, politics, and advertising."

I figured it was viral marketing of some kind. The thing is, when you witness dreamy material on a subject about dreams, you're more willing to dream about it. It's an interesting idea.

DriverStabby - 2013-10-25

Don't inception me, faggot.

baleen - 2013-10-25

If this were real it would be no weirder than the "shadow figure" phenomenon among many of those who suffer from night terrors or bewildering mass hysterics like the koro phenomenon in Southeast Asia.

baleen - 2013-10-25

I meant to say more likely to dream about it

DriverStabby - 2013-10-25

I meant to press reply.

Billy the Poet - 2013-10-25

Or maybe people on the internet are suggestible?

DriverStabby - 2013-10-25

Yes!

ashtar. - 2013-10-25

That sketch looks nothing like me. I need to recalibrate The Machine.

sasazuka - 2013-10-25

If you're like me and you watch a lot of videos made by paranoid schizophrenics, manufactured dreams are another thing the powers that be can do with their remote-neural monitoring satellites according to conspiracy theorists, so, while I don't know if there's a conspiracy angle to this meme, it would fit into the conspiracy theory perfectly.

BHWW - 2013-10-25

Supposedly the sketch is just a modified version of Alfred E. Neumann's face and I can see it, you know?

spikestoyiu - 2013-10-25

I thought I read years ago that they were turning this "social experiment" into a movie.

Scrimmjob - 2013-10-25

When i was a kid i watched a lot of Unsolved Mysteries. The thing that freaked me out the most was always the police sketches of the kidnappers/murderers/psychos they would show at the end of a clip. This little weirdos face gives me the same feeling. I don't think the music is helping that.

BorrowedSolution - 2013-10-26

Police sketch subjects often seem to be trying to rape you with their eyebrows. It's okay, just think of your happy place and he'll stop fondling your psyche soon.

1 star because poster didn't mention that playing this video is entirely unnecessary.

ooooh

Sudan no1 - 2013-10-26

Every night I have erotic Dr. Katz dreams, how did this thing know??

Paracelsus - 2013-10-26

Man, I'm liking that oneirology tag.

Pope Caius - 2013-10-26

Supposedly we can only dream of faces we've already seen before.

baleen - 2013-10-26

How could this ever be proven?

Spaceman Africa - 2013-10-26

Isn't that obvious?

baleen - 2013-10-26

I dream of faces I've never seen before all the time.
The implication is that I must subconsciously absorb faces that I forget consciously and they manifest themselves from the darkest corners of my mind while I sleep. I'm wondering how that could ever be proven or disproven.

I suppose you could posit that pre-Colonial Africans might never have dreamed of East Asian people, but now that they have the lingual concept of "Asian" and have experience Asiatic faces suggested to them consciously through media imagery, it would be impossible to ever prove it. Unless I'm missing something.
