Sad, but it doesn't change the fact that legions of morons think that autism is some sort of badge of honor and self-diagnose themselves so they can use their made-up mental "illness" as an escape hatch for just being socially broken and gross, so this doesn't really kill the joke that is "internet autism syndrome."
here here. i've always thought it more of "internet-induced autism", which runs a spectrum from willful malingerers to lolcows who have, over time, worked themselves into a sort of stockholm syndrome with, and begin to internalize the insults of their commenter base.
Having someone this autistic is hard on everyone around them. I'm sure it is a lot of the reason she is so shy too. She probably doesn't feel comfortable at home at all.
