Genuinely doleful.

I feel sorry for the microwave.

Xenagama Warrior Princess - 2013-11-15

The cheese wiz jar and the bowl of canned chili waltz in the heating microwave, oblivious to the bachelor audience outside of their window. They have the relationship that nobody can truly appreciate, but everyone envies.

That moment when the light goes out ... l'amour, she has begun.

Sputum - 2013-11-15

This is the pretty much everything I want from poetv.

yes.

baleen - 2013-11-15

I watched every one of these I could find when I first saw them.

My saddest personal recipe:

Roommate's Leftover Vegetable Soup with Crackers

Get the vegetable soup the roommate left in the refrigerator and heat it up. Add Ritz crackers. Sob uncontrollably. Serves 1

Enjoy - 2013-11-15

My sad meals usually involve eating whatever was left on the plates of my kids. I just hate seeing it go to waste so I'll just graze on whatever the kids don't eat and whatever the dog won't eat.

I have a real problem with wasting food as well -- my parents were Great Depression era, they instilled in me an appreciation for the food in front of you, even if it's not something you particularly like. It will keep you alive and there's a kid elsewhere in the world who would love to have it, so appreciate what you've got.

This is the one area where your worldview and mine coincide: one frustration with the poor people I know is that they tend to be serious food-wasters. I'm honestly not sure how you can spend the last week of the month hungry, get your SNAP funds, and then waste a big chunk of what you buy (for example, cooking a big sheet of chicken fingers, letting the leftovers sit out overnight, and then throwing them out the next morning). Good God what is wrong with you people? You have even more limited resources than most folks, why be stupid about it?

That said, you and I probably have different opinions on what to do about the problem (my solution: publicly support SNAP funding, privately fume).

memedumpster - 2013-11-15

Bort, hear hear! For the price of a Wendy's burger a day, you can eat steak and vegetables and drink all the milk you can stand all week. It's a wonderful thing.

I think the cost of fast food should be taxed a good 400% to pay for free steak and milk for every citizen.

Bort - 2013-11-15

Okay, memedumpster, explain to me why you think it's a DAMN GOOD IDEA to waste food when you routinely run out of grocery money.

I am entirely in favor of funding SNAP and other food programs generously, but that doesn't mean I fail to notice lazy stupid waste. And however generously I want to fund food programs, Republicans and other shitheads will cut it down to a fraction of that; all the more reason to not be lazily stupidly wasteful.

memedumpster - 2013-11-16

Bort, I wasn't trolling you.

I actually think overpopulation is a myth perpetuated by the intentional wastes of Western civilization (and its lazy fat fucking white citizens). This planet could seat ten billion comfortably. If chain big box grocery stores were forced to recycle discarded food, Africa could be fed out of the Kroger dumpsters alone. Grocery stores are the number one food wasters in America.

Considering the devastating effects of fast food on global health, it should be overtaxed like cigarettes (it is NOT food, it is a harmful, addictive, STUPID, luxury) to a punishing degree to pay for food for the starving.

So I guess I support a multi-pronged plan.

1. Force groceries to recycle food to foreign charities instead of dumping it. Maybe even international sanctions on the USA for allowing food to rot in silos, like we do constantly.
2. Punish idiots for stuffing their face with diabetes to feed Americans who want to eat and NOT die from it.
3. Start making the overpopulation social darwinists show their work in trade for not being considered as bad as racists socially.

Sorry if my poeTV ethos problem had you thinking I was being an ass.

memedumpster - 2013-11-16

And I do eat steak and vegetables for a few bucks a day, it's cheap.

memedumpster - 2013-11-16

Every study ever done internationally has stated in no uncertain terms that starvation and poverty are caused solely by intentionally organized resource disparity, America and its drinking buddies being the grand marshal of the global hell parade. Religious idiot tribe leaders and tin dictators coming in close second.

I follow Jimmy Carter on Twitter.

Bort - 2013-11-20

My apologies, memedumpster, I didn't get your point and so assumed it must have been sarcasm. I r the dullard here.

I think we're on the same page overall, we want people to have access to nutritious food and we don't mind paying for it. Such frustrations as I occasionally voice may be statistically anomalous and are, as you point out, small potatoes compared to what the food industry wastes.
