I'm not even sure where to begin with this ad, so I'll start with the obvious: the problem isn't a lack of engineering toys "for girls" - it's that there even IS such a thing as toys "for girls."

Actually the CEO explains that girls learn differently from boys https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y-AtZfNU3zw

Yeah, I guess engineering toys for girls isn't exactly a bad thing, but maybe we could just go back to having non-gendered legos or something?

Like a lot problems, I blame this on advertising. People don't sell products, they sell identities. The finer a market can be cut up into demographics, the more effectively you can sell people an image of themselves. Gender is one of the easiest ways to do this.

To do the dishes, to clean up my room, to do the laundry and in the bathroom.

I saw the interpipes lighting up about this ad and Beastie Boys involvement and I thought, huh I wonder what song they're using.

And it was 'Girls'.

Maybe 'Hey Ladies' was too expensive.

NOW YOUR MOM THREW AWAY YOUR BEST PORNO MAG!

I like that after a bunch of adults set this up for girls (girls not shown doing any setup or design) and dissing pink toys for girls, the thing they're shilling is pink and for girls.

This isn't meant to empower anyone, just take sales from dolls.

gmol - 2013-11-22

Yes this is exactly what I was thinking.

Syd Midnight - 2013-11-24

I plunked on these for my niece because otherwise she'd have gotten nothing but pink princess dolls for Christmas. I feel a pink princess engineering kit is a fair compromise, especially since it's not my kid.

Jet Bin Fever - 2013-11-25

Yeah, the pink and yellow princess shit is systematic. You can't escape it if you have a daughter in this country these days. You might as well get them something that is pink but not a tiara or a cooking set.

Potrod - 2013-11-22

Of all the things in the world to get outraged about, this?

Hooker - 2013-11-23

So the Beastie Boys are mad that their horribly misogynist song has been repurposed into a song meant to empower girls?

I feel like punk means not being litigious worms in addition to rejecting authority.
