A great many of us have been tired of Seth for years, including all of his Family Guy clone-shows.

On a personal note, I think animated programs can do well, but they have to stop aping sit-coms to be anything more than, well, sit-coms. The trouble is that's a "safe" setup that will usually bring in more ratings than, say, a Futurama or an Adventure Time, which at least tried something other than the tired old quirky family setup.

So what, he can't simply stop making the show? I honestly have no idea how primetime TV works, but I've always assumed it's his decision whether he wants to keep making something or renew the contract each season. Correct me if I'm wrong, I'd be interested to know how it really works.

Either way, Family Guy hasn't been funny for ages. I'm not sure if it once was, or I was just easier to please twelve years ago.

I love Futurama- at least pre-cancellation Futurama, the movies and later can (mostly) lick me- but it was sitcommy as all hell. Cast, plot structures, everything.

Couldn't agree more. Every time I hear people say that, I tell them to go back and watch the first few seasons.

It's always been this awful, lazy, unfunny "REFERENCE!" show, the equivalent of all those "GENRE MOVIE" movies. It's never been any different. The only think that's changed is, hard as it may be to believe, the animation used to be far worse.

I don't like Family Guy, but I'm not one of those people who thinks it and the people who like it are the worst things to ever happen. I think it sucks, but otherwise it's existence is completely inconsequential to me.

The first few seasons and a few episodes here or there strived to be The Simpsons: Some family moral tale interwoven with some jokes. Obviously the Simpsons has always been superior, but Family Guy has its place. I watch an episode or two before going to bed to get all of the legitimate thoughts out of my head.

Family Guy actually broke a lot of ground when it first came on, but after a few episodes worth of that shit all the ground was broken and they were left with a very superficial show.

But people forget the influence Family Guy had on comedy. The Simpsons mock them for being a ripoff, but the Simpsons owes more to Family Guy than vice versa. A lot of very good experimental animated comedy we have now we owe to Family Guy and it's willingness to be innovative in a way that mouth breathers could appreciate.

I'm not saying you have to like the show, but all this visceral hate seems very misplaced. Especially when people take it out on MacFarlane, whom people seem to want to blame for individual jokes as though he was still somehow involved in the show's writing. Family Guy isn't his mouthpiece, it's his Frankenstein's monster.

That said, this dog stunt is ass.

I have arrived from 8 years in the future to mock anyone insane enough to think Simpsons owes anything to Family Guy.
