It was pretty rich hearing Archieluxury calling someone a show off while hes flashing some gold watch on the lower right of the screen.

Sexy Duck Cop - 2013-11-28

I just started watching Nathan Barley. It's a great show.

Call me a novice, but I see very few people with watches anymore, what with the ubiquity of cellphones. I wear one once in a while to look fancy, and it doesn't work and I got it in a Kids Meal at Arctic Circle, but in general when I ask someone on the street (three piece suit or tattered hoodie,) they tend to reach for their pockets before looking at their left wrists.

Nevertheless, I love this man. He's the British Charlie Day.

EvilHomer - 2013-11-29

Time to upgrade to a Patek Phillipe smartphone.

morva - 2013-11-29

Not British, but he is a citizen of the Commonwealth. To be fair, he does sound a bit Pommie though.

OxygenThief - 2013-11-29

Watches are for when you and everyone around you loses their cellphone.

The Mothership - 2013-11-29

luxury watches like a Rolex aren't about telling time; a quartz movement is more accurate than the ,000 Skydweller that is currently rolex's premier mechanical movement. these watches are jewelry, pure and simple, and jewelry is always about demonstrating social status through beautification of the body.

and he's right, Tag Heuers are ugly, nouveau riche jewelry.

memedumpster - 2013-11-29

I would like to start wearing a watch again, I find them to be one of the most amazing machines we've ever invented. It means more to me to have the device itself for its own sake than to include timekeeping in another unrelated machine, which is also quickly becoming obsolete. Phones are now just attachments to most new cameras.

Old_Zircon - 2013-11-30

Mechanical watches were the peak of human technological achievment for centuries, what's not to love?

They aren't flashy or valuable or useful, but you can get some pretty well made, prewar Swiss chronographs for next to nothing on eBay if you're willing to switch to metric time (100 divisions per minute instead of 60).

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2013-11-29

You mean, like a novice nun?

EvilHomer - 2013-11-29

Novice donkey.

Offtopic - I replied to your rat post earlier, not sure if you got a chance to see it.

OK, just sent this email to Archie:

Dear Archibald,

I would like to organise a meeting to discuss the finer points of being a lower-middle class white male in modern Australia and the difficulties one faces. And get shitfaced.
I am based (*removed*), but commute to my shitty lower-class job in Old Brisbane Town daily. As I am also a full-time Uni student, I am a busy man and I don't have to tell you that time is money.

Speaking of which, I have sent the AUD donation to via PayPal (it's the one with "You've got funds, FUCKER!!!" in the subject), and will gladly pay your specified fee of /hr (for at least 2 hours) as well as any food and drinks consumed. I can't guarantee boutique beer, expensive champagne and gourmet dining…perhaps a box of goon and a sausage roll in a local park? OK, at least some decent beer and a feed at a reasonable establishment.

I would like to capture this moment on video -for non-commercial purposes- for posterity, to look back on and perhaps show off to my grandchildren. I promise no full-frontal nudity will be leaked to the web, unless you give the say-so.

I would like to know what times/dates in December/January you are available - weekdays, weekends…any time of the day. I work all different hours week-to-week and have a lot on my plate, but would do my best to make time available.

Just to clarify, /hr gets me the full GFE, correct?

Sincerely,
(*removed*)

We'll see what Archie says.

Oscar Wildcat - 2013-11-29

Alrighty then, "My Dinner With ArchieLuxury" begins. Can you do a passable Wallace Shawn?

Scrimmjob - 2013-11-29

Godspeed.

Let me know the time and the place so i can be lurking in the shadows with the chloroform and the oversized burlap sack!

Oktay - 2013-11-29
