north korea is auto-five.

don't know why this doc had to go to that huge hollywood place with a big towering score and punchy motion graphics. very puzzling: it was like they couldn't find their story so they just sexxed it up in a way that audiences would find familiar.

also the interesting question of their children being spies and their wives being abducted never became a story point and the doc didn't really capitalize off the cognitive dissonance (or lack of) of Droznak about the world around him.

For example, was it merely a coincidence that each man recieved a wife of a different ethnicity and that DPRK was left with a generation of multicultural children who were all going to be diplomats?

Or better: Droznik or whatever recounts meeting his wife for the first time at 'the foriegner's bar' like it was just another night on the town. This conflicts with every other documentary produced about DPRK which portrays the experiences foreigners have to be orchestrated operations.

Also the material of droznak in DPRK didn't corroborate his testimony that he felt out of place there. The video and interview footage were at narrative odds with each other, and not in a way that furthered the character of theme, so that was a big editorial problem. All in all it felt like the wieght of the material overwhelmed the director and he forgot what story he wanted to tell.

breeding spy kids though: that's one for the books. amazing

I think the film does a fair job of exposing what this guy, and his life, are really like.

Particularly illuminating were the parts "The famine didn't bother me because I still got my full rice rations every day as a high-value propaganda asset, so I don't know what the big deal is" and "The dude caught me with my hand down his wife's pants and was just a total jerk about it" segments.

Yeah. I hesitate to judge anyone in that kind of situation, and it's helpful to remember that even now he's still in the power of the North Korean regime, so he has to walk carefully.

Still, it's hard not to think of him as a royal dickweed.

well, its the job of the people making the documentary to show that, even if it's not something their subject can put into words.

this film made north korea seem not all that different than other countries.

for example, it plainly vilified his enemy, the dude who looked like ross perot. it vilified him editorially, it vilified from from POV and most lamely it vilified him through that absurd Borne-supremacy motion graphic sequence that came out of nowhere with that out of place score.

I think it was genius that it made the viewer choose sides between two traitors.

Late to the party but I love this documentary (when it's online) and I had a lot of the same questions. It helps to understand that the producers of this piece are able to even make this doc because they have established a stable working relationship with the NK authorities. They often say that they are not censored and I'm willing to believe that because it's clear that they exercise a lot of self-regulation. As such, they mainly stick to the facts of the case and don't probe too much deeper with the exception of that excellent scene in the climax when he's confronted by all the information from Jenkins from abroad.

Multipart was evidently sabotaged by the hated American capitalist pigs, who are jealous of the freedoms enjoyed by the happy workers of our glorious Juche website. But the imperialist's counter-revolutionary acts of treason will not shake the PoEple from their true path! Check the channel for the rest, or look below:

Dresnocks most current wife kind of looks like Tracy Morgan.
