gravelstudios - 2013-12-08

when I was in college, I gave a speech in speech class about Star Trek. I thought THAT was nerdy.

People with communication degrees get the jobs they deserve.

Old_Zircon - 2013-12-08

Such as speech instructor at a community college.

MyNameIsUnimportant - 2013-12-08

By now, everyone's heard of pony and everyone's decided whether or not they like pony. There's no real need to "spread the word" anymore.

EvilHomer - 2013-12-08

Have you accepted Ponies into your life?

Xenagama Warrior Princess - 2013-12-08

They are the Jehova's Witnesses of colored horses.

misterbuns - 2013-12-08

oh man. did you dudes make it to 6:30?

EvilHomer - 2013-12-08

That was all class.

Old_Zircon - 2013-12-08

Best part.

EvilHomer - 2013-12-08

This brony speech slightly better than average; at least he makes an effort to hit some valid, interesting talking points, instead of just splerging about how much he loves ponies.

The two articles he cites are notorious horseshit, and they're not really that notable - I'm guessing the reason he included them was because they've both got excellent SEO, and were probably on his first page of hits while searching for some lurid controversy to give his speech a hook. His point about the facial expressions is well-taken; MLP's animation staff does a lot with their budget, and a big part of what makes it work so well is the attention paid to the ponies' body language and facial expressions (I've often likened this to Bill Watterson's approach to "Calvin & Hobbes"). I don't like the self-dismissive statements he throws in from time to time, though - I don't know if this was supposed to be a *persuasive* speech or not, but the last you want to do in a public speaking situation is repeatedly encourage your audience to not care about what you're saying.

I'd give him a B. B+ on account of the shout-out to My Little Dashie (which is absolutely dreadful, by the way).

Shoebox Joe - 2013-12-09

Evilhomer, is My Little Dashie the product of someone emotionally isolated? Every time I see a product where some one is trying to emulate being a parent, I just can't help but have that sensation crawl through my mind.

I have never really read any fanfics of anything other than a Scooby-Doo/He-Man cross over which was either insincerely made entirely for the sex scenes or the product of a fledging/piss-poor writer

memedumpster - 2013-12-08

"begs the question"
"Fox-newsy"
The use of "you."
Hand wavy vocal inflections like Sarah Palin with Michele Bachmann blinky crazy.

He's not giving a speech, he's giving a TED Talk. Can't fail him, because he'd just be back with much worse.

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2013-12-08

Damn. Wish I'd thought of that strategy in school.

misterbuns - 2013-12-08

i like how he says 'people say that the facial expressions in this show are really good' like he isn't qualified to make that judgment himself

also where is the 'white people' tag, ammirite guys?

Shoebox Joe - 2013-12-09

I like this guy.
