Oh. God. Dammit.

Mothra better be in this sumbitch.

Binro the Heretic - 2013-12-10

They'd better not fuck this one up.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2013-12-10

History shows again and again how nature points up the folly of men...

Riskbreaker - 2013-12-10

It can't be as bad as the previous attempt. At least the design looks more faithful to the original.

Hooker - 2013-12-11

The design is a guy in a rubber suit kicking the shit out of cardboard city with a few toy train/monorail sets along the way.

Kaiju might be my favourite genre of films. I'm not going pass judgement on this one based on this trailer, which contains nowhere near enough information. But it's telling, I think, that the good kaiju films (Godzilla vs Mothra, the Gamera trilogy, Pacific Rim, etc.) all mixed overblown and melodramatic seriousness (which this seems to have) with over-the-top characters and a light-hearted nature (which this doesn't seem to have so far). I'm not saying that's the necessary formula, but the ones that got away from it (Cloverfield, the last American Godzilla) have sucked pretty bad.

Hooker - 2013-12-11

That said, it's a big-budget kaiju film and it has Sally Hawkins in it, so I'll see it in theatres.

I really hope it does well because, if it does, maybe we can get a monster film every summer for a little while in between the 50 superhero movies.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2013-12-10

Hope Bryan Cranston got a subway car full of money for this.

Adham Nu'man - 2013-12-10

NO BRIAN CRANSTON WHY?!?

Sexy Duck Cop - 2013-12-10

I have faith in this. Perhaps the greatest design trend of the past century has been the early-2000's mentality of "No, look, we're finally gonna do it right this time!"

Caminante Nocturno - 2013-12-10

If this goes well, we may see a Guillermo del Toro remake of Gamera.

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2013-12-11

There are some things that just can't be made to look cool or realistic. A giant turbo-jet-powered turtle shell is one of them.

Hooker - 2013-12-11

Gamera's flight is one of the coolest parts of the 90s Gamera trilogy. You shut your ignorant mouth, SPK.

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2013-12-12

It works in the original films. If it was to be given the ol' "update 'n' reboot" treatment... no. They'd make the jets cybernetic or something, but the original "turtle shell full of roman candles" wouldn't pass muster. They'd probably just cut out the flying altogether.

Hooker - 2013-12-12

The 90s trilogy _is_ a reboot, and the flying parts, as mentioned, are awesome. YOU shut YOUR ignorant mouth, SPK.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2013-12-10

By the way, if you've got Hulu plus, the original Japanese film "Gojira" (without Raymond Burr) is part of the Criterion Collection, with subtitles.

garcet71283 - 2013-12-10

One of the most treasured movies in my DVD collection. So good.

lotsmoreorcs - 2013-12-10

i hear theyre looking to do some real world building with this franchise with the quick introduction of his heavy-lidded jovial son

duck&cover - 2013-12-10

Uses Ligeti's "Requiem" from "2001."

Oscar Wildcat - 2013-12-10

What, no Godzuki?

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2013-12-11

Oh thank heavenly fuck this looks awesome.

Fuck you, John Cusack version. Hello glorious new version obviously inspired by Guillermo del Toro.

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2013-12-11

I believe you've got your Roland Emmerich blasphemies confused. Matthew Broderick was in the 1998 version of "Godzilla," while Cusack was in the movie "2012."

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2013-12-12

Can I just say fuck you to John Cusack anyway?

Nominal - 2013-12-11

I have a bad feeling this is going to be Transformers with a lizard.

Wait, story by Davis S. Goyer?

HAHAAAAAHAHA, my mistake. It's going to be Call to Duty with a giant lizard instead of brown people. Ra ra big burly white soldiers to save the day!

At what point did any of the Godzilla movie glorify the military? Holy christ this is going to suck.

infinite zest - 2013-12-11

But Godzilla is a GOOD Kaiju!

infinite zest - 2013-12-11

Also why would you need to do a halo jump to get to Godzilla? I NEED ANSWERS!!!

SolRo - 2013-12-11

For pointless melodrama, which also would explain the "We're going to parachute in to avoid being seen BUT STRAP THESE RED SMOKE FLARES TO YOURSELVES BECAUSE THEY LOOK COOL"

Hooker - 2013-12-11

Godzilla constantly sees red, so he wouldn't notice the flares.

memedumpster - 2013-12-12

That's how you know they know nothing of the source material. Godzilla has a horrific prejudice against every single thing that flies. Ground monster and forces get the stomping, slapping, chewing treatment, but let something with wings go by and its instant nuke breath. I would have been sold on this if halfway down the death beam flew up and vaporized them all, but nope, this has to be WAR LOVE jacked off in our eyes.

oddeye - 2014-02-26

Sometimes he was good, sometimes he was bad. I think I saw a documentary that said it had something to do with how round or how sharp his eyes where depicted. Seriously.

Boxhead - 2013-12-11

This looks cool.

But I was REALLY, REALLY hoping that the jump was going to end with half the squad ending up in Godzilla's mouth.
