For whatever it's worth, the Cuyahoga has been significantly improved since this thing was filmed. A little info:

Did you notice? "But aquatic bug populations, which are sensitive to pollution, are increasing." You're god damn right, Cleveland is getting its aquatic bug population back.

Also: we're not Detroit!

The big reason the Cuyahoga River is no longer polluted is because all the heavy industry moved to China for the most part. The water pollution seems to have moved there as well.

Still though, it amazes me when I go downtown and see kayak races in the river during the summertime. That sort of thing was unheard of 10-20 years ago.

Well, first it got worse. Like, "hey I think the river's on fire today" worse.

Not to say that environmental regulations helped. The fact that cities further upstream are no longer dumping their raw sewage in the river is a big factor as well.
