Hanging out with crackhead and crack monkey, a young girl sees a terrifying sight.

duck&cover - 2013-12-25

Never play with cracks. Yours or someone else's.

Xenocide - 2013-12-25

You couldn't air this today, of course. The meaning of the word "crack" was changed forever in the early 80's, when Cracked Magazine readership reached epidemic levels within the inner cities.

Hooker - 2013-12-25

"Why isn't this in the form of a list?" people would ask.

Racketeer - 2013-12-25

Crack job by whoever found this. I can imagine little kids freaking the heck out when they saw it for the first time and then being frustrated years later when they couldn't remember what the heck that was.

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2013-12-25

This reminds me of the many "once you see the faces in the wall, they can come and get you" horror stories that have been written/produced since.

Such as: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Amb01-gTTrg

Syd Midnight - 2013-12-25

I had a similar thing happen to me recently (the culprit was Sid and Marty Krofft's "Lost Saucer", specifically a dog/horse chimera featured therein)

Old_Zircon - 2014-04-27

This apparently had a pretty strong impact on a lot of kids who saw it (that's why it was pulled) so there could be a real connection in some cases.

Old_Zircon - 2013-12-25

This is a big deal, a lot of people (the creator included) have been trying to secure a copy of this for a VERY long time, looks like someone finally did.

Old_Zircon - 2013-12-25

Last I heard people had tracked it to a PBS affiliate outside of Mexico City that aired it once or twice in the late 90s, but that seemed to have been a dead end.

Old_Zircon - 2013-12-25

Oh I'm wrong about the creator looking for it, that's some lost 80s gore movie that's at least as legendary.

Crab Mentality - 2013-12-25

Crack Monkey. Good band name.

Or, POETV name, if some lurker is reading this.

candyheadrobot - 2013-12-26

That is pretty disturbing, like the worst version of the cloud game ever. I was terrified of Jurassic Park though, so maybe I shouldn't judge.

baleen - 2013-12-26

fantastic.

poorwill - 2013-12-26

Camel crack just sounds filthy.

sasazuka - 2013-12-26

Short animation, "only shown on television a few times and then pulled because it scared kids", a title that would have an edgy street drug double-entendre in today's world, and the fact I don't remember it from watching SESAME STREET as a kid in the late 1970s would seem to point towards hoax...

...but my gut instinct before I even check the rest of the Internet to check the veracity of this one is that it is indeed a real, authentic retired SESAME STREET segment, primarily because something about the style is very familiar, particularly the eyes on the girl which remind me very much of another SESAME STREET animation. Also the "Crack Master" reminds me a lot of the tree monster from that one SESAME STREET cartoon where said tree monster turns a lumberjack into a tree to teach him a lesson.

Very cool find, possibly my favourite "lost" classic TV clip I've seen on POETV all year.

http://tailotherat.blogspot.ca/2008/09/crack-monster.html

If it aired as late as May 1980, in all likelihood I did see it but it wasn't repeated often enough for it to have left much of an impression in my then 5-year old mind.

sasazuka - 2013-12-26

Come to think of it, there might be two clues that I did see it and it did traumatize me as a kid.

1) My mother did say I told her I was afraid of people in cracks in the wall or something like that. Could I have been trying to describe the Crack Master?

2) In BLUE DRAGON on the XBox 360, there's this one village of creatures who were shadows on the wall that did vaguely remind me of something I couldn't quite put my figure on but it was something very unsettling.

On a tangent, I'm disappointed that I can't find the SESAME STREET cartoon about Max the Lumberjack and the tree genie (who turned Max into a tree for a while to teach him to change his evil lumberjackin' ways) isn't on Youtube or anywhere else I could find. I was specifically wanting to see if the tree genie looked as similar to the Crack Master as I seem to remember.

I'm pretty sure I've seen it online within the past couple of years, but I guess Sesame Workshop had it taken down.

Jet Bin Fever - 2013-12-30

Living in that neighborhood, you will see crack again.

Aubrey McFate - 2013-12-31

Hey, this isn't that bad! I mean maybe the fact that the animals are made of cracks makes it a bit unsettling but it's noaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA WHAT THE FUCK

And the moral is: be nice or your face will fall off.
