As for this video... what is it with bronies and Princess Luna?

We had almost a full year between Luna's first appearance at the beginning of season 1 to her second appearance early in season 2. In the meantime, the fandom had to invent a personality for her. (I mean, what are we supposed to do? Not write fan fiction of her?)

There were a few common themes. "Gamer Luna" was a common one, as was the childish "Princess Woona," inspired by her smaller size than Celestia.

One fairly common idea was that Luna was a bit out of touch after her thousands of years on the moon. She was socially awkward, and in need of education about how the world has changed.

And in "Luna Eclipsed" in season 2, that's exactly what she was.

For a whole year, Luna was basically a fairly popular fan-made character, and when she showed up again, she was exactly what the fans expected. Luna's appearance in canon validated some of the (fairly obvious) fan theories about her personality.

That's my take on it, at least.

So it's an autism thing? That makes sense. LUNA DID HAVE TROUBLE COMMUNICATING WITH OTHER PONIES, BEING OBLIVIOUS TO THEIR FEELINGS AND MAKING SOCIAL MISTAKES LIKE SPEAKING IN THE ROYAL CANTERLOT VOICE. A pony whom autistic fans speculate to be autistic, who later turns out to actually *be* autistic, is bound to generate a diehard collection of fans.

I didn't start really following the show until Season Three, so I missed out on the early fan speculation re: Princess Luna. But I was pleased as punch when they finally gave Roid Rage some serious screen-time last week, so I imagine maybe the fan reaction was like that?

(speaking of which, *Bulk Biceps*? What the hell?! I'm guessing Bulk Biceps is a pseudonym that Snowfake adopted, because he was ashamed of his "real" name. That's my fanon explanation, at any rate.)

"Snowflake" was never intended to be his name, it was just something Spitfire called him in a 'drill sergeant breaking you down" kind of way.

Anyway, if we're going to talk about last week's episode, we need to talk about a certain pony's triumphant return. According to the people behind the show, she's here to stay. That's a major triumph for the show and the fans.

Regardless, his name SHOULD be Roid Rage. It's almost as bad as them trying to retcon Derpy to Ditzy Doo.

And yes, I'm glad our mail pony returned, too! My four favorite ponies are Rainbow Dash, Fluttershy, Roid Rage, and Derpy, so you can imagine my delight! The episode itself was a little weak - it felt like a rehash of Hurricane Fluttershy and Wonderbolt Academy, but without the Oomph of either episode. But it's still a great episode, and the background pony guest stars are sure to go into this season's highlight reel, alongside Flutterbat (which was the best thing ever).

My favorite episode this season is, by far, Pinkie Apple Pie. The combination of the Apple family's loving bond and Pinkie Pie's Pinkie Pie-ness made it the perfect storm of everything I love about this show. And that song! Apples to the Core is officially my favorite MLP song!

Flutterbat was aggressively adorable, and I sincerely hope we see more of her in the future. I mean, there's no way we won't.

Really? I found Pinkie Apple Pie to be sort of hard to watch. There's a lot of unspoken pain in Pinkie Pie's life, in regards to her family. She's quite clearly suffering from trauma issues, guilt, resentment, fear of abandonment, fear of criticism and rejection. So to see the pony with the least happy family life, trying to horn her way into the strongest, most supportive pony family... I dunno, but that's really, really sad.

And of course the writers just glossed right over the subtext, like they did with Applejack's dead parents. I know they did it because they don't want My Little Pony to get too "heavy" and depress children, but I think in this case, the silence just made the whole situation that much more terrible.

I've seen similar situations in my own life. Most of my friends have terrible family lives, myself included, but one of them, his family is very much like the Apples. They all work together, they all make an effort to stay in touch, and even when they fight, they never give up on each other. Last year, his parents threw him a birthday party, inviting all of his various cousins and uncles and whatnot - upwards of about fifty people, all from a close-knit, extended family unit. Anyway, I went to this party, and this guy shows up; a friend of a friend I'd seen a few times on the streets. He started talking about how great it was to see all this family togetherness; how he didn't really have any family, how his mom had just died of an Oxy overdose, how his stepdad was an abusive alcoholic and how his brother hated him and nobody spoke to anyone else unless drugs or firearms were involved. His aunt had shot his grandmother the Christmas before. But he didn't speak with bitterness, he just spoke with... longing. He spent that whole night being super-polite and watching my buddy's family like a cold, hungry hobo staring into a restaurant window. The look in his eyes, I'd seen it before, in broken soldiers and parolees fresh from prison. When he left, my friend made fun of him for being such a weirdo.

I guess my point is, fuck Pinkie Apple Pie. Stupid episode for jerks. :(

Also, I noticed that Apples to the Core was winning Equestria Daily's Best Song poll, but bump that, Bats FTW.

I'm sorry everypony, I didn't mean to say fuck Pinkie Apple Pie. It's not a bad episode, it just hits a bit too close to home.

We get an average of one, two pony videos per week, tops. It's a fun topic; if it's not your cup of tea, you've got plenty of other stuff to do! And if it is your cup of tea, well, no one will judge you. You don't have to feel uncomfortable or ashamed of who you are.

haha. But, I guess you're right that it has quieted down some. It was getting to be 2-3 videos a day for a while. Most of them are uninspired more than anything. There is the occasional one that breaks new ground, but I think we've exhausted the humor of guys jerking off on pillows.
