I went to school with his daughter growing up. One of the biggest miscarriages of justice in American history.

That's a horrible thing to say about her!

And women leaders conspired to keep him in prison after his exoneration. The white woman's injustice system strikes again.

She didn't want to be seen as soft on the wrongfully convicted.

Can anyone find some first-hand writings from either then-governor Jane Swift or DA Martha Coakley, who seems to have been the primary instigator behind Swift's decision to refuse the parole board's recommendation? I've dug up a lot of vitriolic speculation, but almost nothing from the horse's mouth, which is odd seeing as Martha Coakley is now the Attorney General of Massachusetts. (the Rape Culture Crusader angle, while intriguing, doesn't really seem to hold water, as Wikipedia cites at least one other rape case in which Ms Coakley controversially FAVORED a rapist, albeit a rapist cop)

The nearest I can find to an explanation for Smith and Coakley's behavior, is a short blurb from one of Ms Coakley's press agents:

"It's not a question of continued punishment for (Mr Amirault's) past conviction. It's a question of whether or not he's a dangerous person in the future."

...which is one of the most depressing and dystopian things I've ever heard, even by Masshole standards.

Martha Coakley fucks up everything, doesn't she? Also from her greatest hits:

- Lost in a Senate race to Scott Brown in early 2010, because she couldn't be assed to actually campaign. Her hubris cost us the "filibuster-proof majority" that could occasionally be pulled together to best the Republicans. So that meant one extra needless year of government paralysis.

- Remember when Boston went crazydumb over ATHF blinky boards? That was Martha Coakley too. She was in a panic because it "had a very sinister appearance. It had a battery behind it, and wires."

And that's just the high profile crap. Read on:

Every time you learn something new that makes you want to smack her, take a drink.

So it's Satanic Panic Week again?

BorrowedSolution - 2014-01-23

I know there were no mentions of Satanic ritual abuse here, but that's about the only way this differs from all the other cases.

I can't even imagine what I'd feel like doing if I was falsely convicted of raping kids and made to sit in prison for 18 years over it.

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2014-01-23

I'd sue the holy-rolling shit out of everyone involved, especially the ones who coached the kids. After that, maybe write a book or two.

If anyone hasn't seen Jagten - The Hunt (2012), I would recommend it. It was one of the best films I saw last year, and deals with this topic.
