Right up there with a movie being proudly advertised as from the producers of "Underworld".

Well, The Croods was just nominated for a Best Animated Film Oscar and was co-written and co-directed by one of the guys who made How To Train Your Dragon, so maybe it's alright. Haven't seen it, though.

I really liked the silly creature design of 'The Croods' (the landwhales, the Macaw-colored sabretooth cat, the owl-panther etc), but the writing/dialogue was abysmal.

I saw a captioned pic-set from the Croods featuring whoever the mom character was supposed to be. It had her in various poses, the final one being where she's laying down as if sunbathing, her hands behind her head.

The point of the set was to be upset that her armpits and legs were clean-shaven rather than hairy.

I remember it being better than this.

Firstly, I'm drunk.

Secondly, it's well over fifty years old.

Thirdly, "The Croods" had character design and direction from the guy who gave us Lilo and Stitch and How to Train Your Dragon. He is a very talented artist that apparently has a fetish that is also good for young ladies' self-esteem. You can go find him if you wish on this here internet device. I think he's gotta lotta moxie. However, he is not really involved with this.

Fourthly, Dreamworks and its group of folks who work on everything there are. Many of those folks are the finest, hardest working craftsman you will ever know--and many of the rest will likely become thus.

Fifthly, this is directed by the guy that directed the Lion King who, afterwards, made in turn cloying and very "Last Dragon"-ish material. He had a great start with stuff like "Brave Little Toaster" and some little thing called "Roger Rabbit". Maybe he gets to tap back into some of that here. Not sure. Not sure at all.

Sixthly, it looks like exactly what was expected and will hopefully end up entertaining an eight-year-old and giving occasional relief to the parents that brought that hell-beast for under ninety minutes of well-earned silence and darkness.

Seventhly, that it, at least, gets any single person under thirty to seek out the originals is a very good thing--even if it ends up a terrible crapheap by comparison. I still wish it weren't so--then again, I also hope to not die--or at least to not die while being aware that I'm dying.

Lasteightly, "At least" is the best any of us can ever hope for.

Seriously though, how many people could you get into a room that would say "HEY! PEABODY AND SHERMAN! THAT'S KIND OF LIKE... THESE... 2D ANIMATED SHOWS... LIKE ADVENTURE TIME AND RICK AND MORTY... THAT ARE REALLY POPULAR. LET'S SEE IF WE CAN CAPITALIZE ON THEIR SUCCESS!!!"

and then say

"Fuck it."

Quiet, you.

"No one remembers."

If you don't know anything about the things Jay Ward produced, then the fault lies with you, I'm afraid. I'm not thrilled with this re-imagining or whatever, but the originals are still quite entertaining, as is the rest of what appeared on The Adventures of Rocky & Bullwinkle.

It's a lesson Hollywood should have learned throughout the 2000's: Don't make something 3D and "hip" that doesn't have to be. If Matt Stone and Trey Parker decided to make "South Park" the movie in 3D, I doubt if it would've had such lasting value. I'm really pissed about this because I got up at 5:30 too until my dad bought the whole VHS collection. Sherman and Peabody and was always his favorite part.

What! It's always better to get a real child to voice a child. The Peanuts specials were voiced by real children. They get children to voice children because they sound more like children do. That's why they do it.

They usually hire women to do kid voices. The idea is they're already high-pitched and, if the show/film becomes a franchise, it's not like puberty is going to come along and wreck voice audiences have gotten used to.

I used to get up at 6 in the morning to watch Sailor Moon.

I used to get up at 5AM to watch some videogame-oriented game show for kids, kind of like Double Dare meets Nick Arcade, but it was none of those. They'd just answer a couple of questions, play video games and then get to climb around a velcro maze and keep all the games they found.

As a kid who wasn't allowed to have Nintendo, it was basically like pornography for me. Can't remember the show's name though.

"Starcade," maybe?

If only they'd had Starcraft and a load of Koreans, it would've been really bad-ass.

The George of the Jungle movie was surprisingly entertaining.
