I remember having to watch these when I was a kid in Health class. "DRUGS" became this umbrella term for everything that wasn't tobacco or alcohol. Like most people I was scared to try a lot of things for the first time, but any dealer will tell you the appropriate dosage whether it's coke, ketamine, ayahusca lsd, thc, I could go on.. which is more than a clerk at a grocery store can say when they sell you a case of malt liquor and a carton of cigarettes like don't smoke and drink that shit all at once.
Furthermore, drugs make really kickass music. It's ironic that Richard Simmons is telling kids to not hide behind some mask when that was pretty much his thing in the first place. It's almost like these people are saying "don't do what I do because I don't want competition. Stick to what you know"
I am imagining a scenario where MTV shot 30 minutes of Cinderella just being sarcastic as fuck when asked to do an anti-drug commercial, and they could only salvage a 2-5 second clip out of the footage.
