I just don't get "Portlandia". I catch it once in a while because a couple of my friends are sometimes extras, and it's cool to see local businesses be showcased (and in this case parodied) but it's representation of Portland is akin to renaming "Perfect Strangers" "Chicago Cousins"

None of what I see is that out of the ordinary in any other young, "hip" pocket of any city I've lived in, which includes Oakland, Madison, Milwaukee, New Haven, etc. People ride bikes and read books wait in line for coffee and brunch and have local music scenes. Sure, there's less of a visible ghetto in Portland than those other cities (if you say Madison or New Haven don't have ghettos, visit outside of Yale or UW's main pathways and get back to me)

So basically what we're left with are primarily recycled Laurel and Hardy/Abbott and Costello sketches simply placed in Portland.
