Amazing. Did Philip Seymour Hoffman ever just plain suck in any role? Sure he was in a few semi-shitty movies ("Twister" and "Patch Adams" weren't necessarily the pinnacle of his career, but they also weren't simply bad and in every one of those I've seen Hoffman still nailed his role.) The same can't be said for most respected actors, who took at least one role (I'm looking at you, Bill Murray and Robert DeNiro) that they would probably regret.

(especially in a starring role) - When it's their time to go, nobody will remember Murray for "Garfield" any more than we remember Brando for "Island of Dr Moarau"

Its kinda like what Jon Stewart pointed out when he had John Goodman on: John Goodman is never bad in anything.
He may have been in things that turned out badly but the man himself is always good.
PSH is like that.
FUCK.

He may have saved the movie version of the franchise wi5th his role as the bad guy. I'm trying (not cheating with imdb this time) to think of a really shitty Goodman role. Closest I can come was "Flight." God I wanted to like that movie.

Even the shitty moves he was in just reinforced his versatility. We're talking about the same man who was the "whooa, dude!" friend in "Twister."
