My grandfather used to keep bees, I've been thinking it might be a good idea to set up a hive in my back yard and just let them roam around the neighbourhood stinging children and pets and getting stuck in car grills and flying into peoples' throats.

Dang, my granddad did the same. Wonder if that was a Greatest Generation thing? Guy was pretty self-made, too; he built the house he lived in (well, drew up the blueprints for it, at least), had his own workshop behind the house, made a lot of the furniture my family still uses, even made his own beeswax candles.

If you're looking to try it, I dunno what the ordnances are like in your state, but in my area you can usually keep less than ten hives without paying for a license and still have a decent harvest. Getting your own chunk comb would be hell of worth it.

I've been wanting to have a hive for years. Sadly, I have a phobia of swarms that stems from an incident when I was a kid. It is more related to fire ants than bees, but it is still a very hard thing for me to work with bees. I still want to though! It's so damned frustrating.
Maybe some day I will get a nice hive going. I have the utmost respect for these awesome arthropods.
