I'm looking for a Dumb Gas Station to open up near my house soon

infinite zest - 2014-02-12

I just want a Kum and Go gas station to open somewhere in my region: I made many out-of-the-way trips to the one in my old town just to stockpile their lighters

Youtube comments are depressing. Only children comment on youtube right?

It's weird that nobody tried this earlier: a friend of mine had a band in the mid-90s called The Champs, which were an instrumental math-metal operation. The Champs' (famous for the song "Tequilla") record label forced them to change their name, so they became C4AM95 (champs) but that didn't work, so they just added "Fucking" to their name.

This is genius but I don't really want to see it catch on, especially if the menu and aesthetic are more-or-less them same. Going to a "Stupid Subway" doesn't appeal to me any more than going to a regular one, especially if the line's out the door because of the name alone: I've been trapped in situations where Starbucks are my only caffeinated option, and I go there because I know it'll be fast; if there is a line, I'll go to the Starbucks across the street.

I LOVE the Fucking Champs! I got IV back in like 2000 or so and listened to What's a Little Reign? maybe 100 times in a single week.
Small world, damn.

chairsforcheap - 2014-02-13

WHAT???? DUDE THE FUCKING CHAMPS ARE MY FUCKING FAVORITE METAL BAND OF ALL TIME. I AM SERIOUSLY FREAKING OUT.

According to the original post, it looks like they're having a problem with the health department. It wouldn't surprise me, especially in Los Angeles, if Starbucks bribed health inspectors into giving them a non-passing grade.

As I understand it (from back when I read about this on a prestigious news site) the place is not licensed as a restaurant-or-whatever, but as an art gallery. If you go there at some time in which they charge for coffee, it's a "donation." In other words it's a stupid publicity stunt for a tv show that no one expects to still be open in a week or two.

Ranma X. - 2014-02-12

It's already closed down.

exy - 2014-02-12

Then I REALLY don't expect it to be open in a week.

There was a store by my house in Portland called "Store for a Month" that moved in after an empty laundromat closed up. Basically, for one month it was an art gallery, but you could also buy the art, but it was mostly just things like an appliance with "FUCKINGMAID" sharpied over the "Kitchenaid" going for ,000 and things like that.. kind of wannabe bullshit if you ask me. But they did serve pie, which was free. And wannabe bullshit was exactly what it turned out being, in disguise! I worked right down the street so I'd pass it every day, and usually stopped in, asking if they had actually sold anything.

After a month, as promised, they were gone, and it became a beer garden with 6 pinball machines! The beer garden serves no food, as Oregon law only requires serving food if you serve liquor, which they don't, but it across the street from a bahn mi restaurant and next door to the best vegan mexican restaurant I've ever been to. Maybe there's a silver lining in Dumb Starbucks' masterplan after all.

Can't wait for the new season of Nathan For You.

infinite zest - 2014-02-13

If it's indeed shut down, I'd hate to be working back at the starbucks I used to work at again: "heeeeyyyy did you hear about the fake starbucks getting shut down?" shut the fuck up and order. It does raise an interesting question though: If I started a burger company in Los Angeles called "Out and In" could "In-n-Out" take legal action, if we served different burgers and had a different name?

boner - 2014-02-13

This is tim & eric related, if you need to know that to vote properly.

Seven Arts/H8 Red - 2014-02-13

Nathan Fielder was doing this stuff before his association with Tim & Eric. Unfortunately, he was doing it on This Hour Has 22 Minutes, which is like finding a mint Mickey Mantle baseball card buried in a pile of cow shit.

Callamon - 2014-02-13

Thanks for the heads up.

Jet Bin Fever - 2014-02-17

I didn't read this till after rating it. Damnit.
