TheOtherCapnS notices a trend in local news. It is utter garbage.

James Woods - 2014-02-14

How?

Oscar Wildcat - 2014-02-15

The US ranks 32nd in the world in press freedom. How that plays out in practice is this.

That guy - 2016-02-14

Priceless.

infinite zest - 2014-02-14

Those with a without a special someone may say to their mobile device "Siri. xTube."

il fiore bel - 2014-02-14

So why do they need the assistance of their mobile device? Are their jaws and teeth fucked up?

The Mothership - 2014-02-14

Sooooo.... everybody just followed the same press release from Verizon? Explanation please.

Wander - 2014-02-14

One option is that news is a joke that will read press released from corporations verbatim.

The other option is that they actually coordinated to do this.

Which do you think is more likely.

EvilHomer - 2014-02-15

See, the problem with this is, they don't tell me which mobile device I should buy! OK, get a mobile device, got it, but... what brand? Which carrier? Is there a certain app or social media website I should be using? Help me out, news!

Checking online, I can't find the original author of the press release they're reading from, but it appears to be a fluff piece called "Cracking the Love Code", and the full text mentions an obscure dating app, Hinge, by name. So maybe it's from whomever owns them?

Cena_mark - 2014-02-14

And this is why I chose to NEVER EVER work for the local news!
SEMPER GUMBY!

fedex - 2014-02-14

I don't get it...?

Koda Maja - 2014-02-14

All the reporters reciting the same news-wire copy is kind of amusing in exposing how completely irrelevant most mainstream news is, but the straight edit of all the anchors telling the audience they love them gets my stars for sheer awkward surrealism.

Herr Matthias - 2014-02-16

"Welcome to Costco. I love you."

EvilHomer - 2014-02-15

Thank the stars I've got a mobile device! I'd hate to be one of those miserable bastards who don't have one, because then I'd miss out on the true spirit of Valentine's Day.

Jet Bin Fever - 2014-02-15

This Valentine's Day, say "I Love You" with the Samsung Galaxy 4... the official mobile device of Valentine's Day.

exy - 2014-02-15

What if I'm with a special someone, but not an italicized "with"?

pastorofmuppets - 2014-02-15

Gmork - 2014-02-15

Cube - 2014-02-15

Wasn't this last year?

That guy - 2014-02-15

I love you.

James Woods - 2014-02-16

I love you.

Bhiu - 2014-02-16

I was feeling kinda down. Now, I feel loved.

jaunch - 2014-02-17

I used to work for a local news station, and I can tell you that they just read scripts verbatim which are suggested for national stories. That's probably what's going on here.

For example, there might be a "national" story about whatever this was about, and there's some suggested lead-in text for the anchors to read. It's designed to make it as easy as possible for the local news station to use the national story, which they pay for of course.

Anyway, the pros will change up the lead-in text, make it a little more original, etc. But most just say fuck it, and read it verbatim.
