Holy shit, that guy absolutely nailed the TD sound.

fedex - 2014-02-17

short flat reverb and a nice long delay, good patches, not too hard to copy....but of course they did it first

Binro the Heretic - 2014-02-17

A fitting tribute for the group who introduced me to electronica.

And then they became the go-to guys for mid-1980s movie & TV soundtracks.

StanleyPain - 2014-02-17

I found out recently that it was mostly from live versions of the Logos-era material that most of the soundtrack of The Keep was put together, and some obsessive fan-reconstructions of the soundtrack have actually found a good chunk of that material to make the new fan soundtracks.

Architeuthis Tux - 2014-02-18

I must quest for those! I've only got three versions of the Keep soundtrack, and none of them fully scratch the itch.

I was lucky enough to see William Friedkin's Q/A at a recent screening of Sorcerer and he talked a bit about how he found TD and got them to do the soundtrack. A couple of years before he did Sorcerer, a friend hauled him out into an abandoned church in the middle of the Black Forest. Froese & crew started the show at midnight, and played with only the lights from their synths. Friedkin was sold.

Old_Zircon - 2014-02-18

Is Sorcerer the one about the people trying o move the truck full of explosives, or is that a different Sorcerer? I saw that one in middle school and I remember it being good but I didn't remember them or Friedkin being involved.

Architeuthis Tux - 2014-02-18

Sorcerer is the one about the down-and-out guys trying to move sweaty dynamite through the jungle.

It was directed by Friedkin and has the first ever Tangerine Dream soundtrack. There's going to be a fancy blu-ray version of it out pretty soon, and it's well worth it. The movie has barely aged.

Old_Zircon - 2014-02-18

Awesome, that movie is great from what I remember, I didn't know it was their first soundtrack. I actually thought it was from the early 80s.

StanleyPain - 2014-02-20

These are the best ones I have found.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7VPKs1Io7A0 (this is "Disc 1" as they call it and Disc 2 is linked from it)

This is the new Russian bootleg soundtrack for The Keep. It's markedly better quality than the bootleg going around in the early 2000s, but really having both that one and this new one is worth it.

god it is getting so gay in here... when are we meeting in new york. Let's get if over with and do it. New york. Spring? someone set a date. BAleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeen

Architeuthis Tux - 2014-02-17

Yes.

I can dig some Schmoelling-era TD. It's not my favorite part of of Logos, but it'll do.

Oscar Wildcat - 2014-02-18

I started listening to this TD, but now almost exclusively listen to the Baumann era TD. Are you familiar with the Tangerine Tree discography?

Architeuthis Tux - 2014-02-18

I should probably go back and listen to some of the Baumann years. My tastes have changed since the last time I tried.

Never heard of the Tangerine Tree discography though. Do tell!

Also, have you listened to Emeralds?

Old_Zircon - 2014-02-18

Yeah, same here. I got the "early years" box set, or whatever it's called, for a good price a while back (decent UK pressings of all 5 Klaus Schulze albums for on vinyl!) and haven't realyl delved too deep into their later stuff because at the time I was buying a lot of records I wasn't too in to sequenced synth things, I wanted organic sounding SOUNDSCAPES. Obviously that's changed, and now I want everything to sound like John Carpenter meets Jan Hammer, so I bet I'd like their mid and late 70s albums a lot now.

Oscar Wildcat - 2014-02-18

As so.

I've got about 50 of the CD's spanning the 68-78 period. This is TD at it's most free wheeling and psychedelic, not the polished soundtrack type music they did in the 80's. Check out Volume 30 - Reims Cathedrale Notre-Dame for example.

infinite zest - 2014-02-17

I was playing this and my upstairs neighbor, also a musician comes down and knocks on my door asking if I have a moog.

fedex - 2014-02-18

your neighbor has a good ear
