Ah, the unremitting bullshit that was the 1980s. Hey Neil, if you want to say something about the plight of the homeless, you could 1) show some of them and how sad their lives are, or 2) indicate that there is something wrong with being upper crust wealthy in a city of poverty. Otherwise it's kind of like Ronald McDonald singing about a healthy vegan lifestyle while serving hamburgers.

Maybe I'm not understanding the lyrics properly? "People on the street need a place to go" ... maybe it's about the availability of public toilets.

the fact that he steps on a turd in an opening scene, I think, is a subtle hint about the substance of the music (or maybe just a comment on geffen)... his next video wasn't until "rocking in the free world", which is basically the same message and themes lyrically, but presented sincerely instead of satirically... or maybe it is just about public toilets?

I guess he made up for it with Ordinary People from Chrome Dreams 2, but it took 18 fucking minutes to explain. When I worked at a bar someone would always put on Young's Ordinary People, Yo La Tengo's Night Falls on Hoboken and Velvet Underground's Sister Ray - in that order - about an hour to last call. That pissed off everyone who wanted to hear their normal-length song.. therefore Ordinary People is my least favorite Young song.

I don't know, this is kind of great.

Everybody's Rockin' would be my pick for low point.

Maybe I'd have a different opinion if I didn't see the video. Kind of like Donald Fagen's "Century's End": when I first heard the song it had a half-asleep feel to it like Donald was troubled at people choosing to live life half-asleep, but then I saw the video, whose imagery doesn't hint that anything is amiss. The two don't sync up for me.

I mean, it's not good exactly but it's weird. The video is just a mess though.

I blame Devo.

I hate you, Neil Young. That whore fiancee loved you, and so I hate you. You represent Canada in a droning whine worse than Rush, and so I hate you. You bore the fuck out of me, so fuck off Neil Young, please die soon so we can have a week of memorial best of then forget your shitty nasal contribution to rock'n'roll and forget you forever.

Jet Bin Fever - 2014-02-20

Are you fucking kidding me? This rules. I would rather listen to this than "Rockin' in the Free World".

Old_Zircon - 2014-02-23

That's setting the bar pretty low as Neil Young songs go.
