Found his talent at last.

Although I'm not a fan of Seth (except he is funding the return of Cosmos), I gotta hand it to him for not using a shitload of ornamentation like most pop singers do when 'attempting' a standard. And he's in tune and somewhat musical.

Sometimes I really wonder if deep down he's not that bad of a guy who got raped by the studio system who insisted he keep beating a dead horse because it made them money.

Then again he could have done what Dave Chappelle did and simply walk away.

jaunch - 2014-02-25

The guy makes wheelbarrow-loads of cash for voicing silly characters on an insanely popular set of TV shows. Why on Earth would he walk away from millions, like Chappelle?

Sure, he's beating a dead horse, but he's basically won the lottery. I mean-- wouldn't we all beat a dead horse if millions of dollars popped out every time we took a swing?

My 2 cents.

cognitivedissonance - 2014-02-25

He has talent but it's not where he makes money.

Also, he's extremely closeted. All the frat boy bluster is camoflage. I look at the man and I see a teenage nerd who keeps being given new garments and personalities to try out. I actually pity Seth MacFarlane.

I've got more respect for Seth MacFarlane these days than I do for whoever it is who writes the Simpsons these days.

Better overall show? Simpsons hands-the-fuck-down. But the last episode of the simpsons I accidentally caught at a bar was one of the most cringe-worthy things I've seen in a long time (can't even remember the plot..) I caught an episode of Family Guy at the same bar last night (keep in mind this is closed-captioned) and found myself laughing throughout most of it, even though I'm supposed to hate family guy.

It's dumb. Robot Chicken's dumb. Rick and Morty is brilliant. When Rick and Morty gets cancelled, people will morn its loss, and maybe get as big of a cult following as Family Guy did, come back, and get pissed on by the people who, whether they'll admit it or not, still laugh at it like I do.

Also I think it was pretty ballsy to kill off the most popular character, in what I could only assume was a bad attempt at ending the show (which didn't work I guess, because I think he came back to life..) Family Guy can do stuff like that, but Simpsons is kind of stuck (with the exception of killing off Maude, Bleeding Gums Murphy, Monroe, I know I'm missing one but Poochie and Frank Grimes don't count) who nobody cared about.

If they tried to hint at an series ending by killing off the least popular family member (I guess for me it'd be Lisa..) imagine the backlash. At that point it's like killing a member of the family.

infinite zest - 2014-02-25

(I mean a member of your own family)

Scrimmjob - 2014-02-25

The most hateable thing about any of these shows is the fan base. Mostly people I work with, who think that reciting shit from whatever they watched on TV last night makes for great conversation.

Xenocide - 2014-02-25

Ballsy? They brought Brian back to life two episodes later. McFarlane straight-up called it a publicity stunt.

Family Guy at its best is still inferior to The Simpsons at its worst. The writers on The Simpsons are at least vaguely aware that they are the curators of a once-great show and many of them genuinely care about it. I don't think anyone on Family Guy has ever cared about it. It's always come off as a cynical money-printing enterprise.

SolRo - 2014-02-26

He seems like a decent person all around, without having his own head stuck up his ass, like the southpark douches.

I don't like family guy, but American Dad has its moments (and Patrick Stewart). Cant blame a guy for doing something that makes tons of money without much effort.

Not like the shit we do to make money is always 100% perfection that no one would be ashamed of. Family Guy might be his version of playing games or trolling PoETV on company time.

Xenocide - 2014-02-26

American Dad isn't bad, but it's also not really Seth's show. By his own admission Seth has had near-zero creative involvement with it past the pilot episode: the other two creators run the series. Seth just comes in to do Stan and Roger's voices.

MAN,THIS IS WORSE THAN THE TIME I NEEDED TO TAKE A CRAP BUT I WAS ON A LIVE BBC PRODUCTION.

Bort - 2014-02-25

I would pay for an album of Seth singing like this, but with songs poorly suited for this style. "Venus in Furs", that kind of thing.

Old_Zircon - 2014-02-25

Venus In Furs pretty much is in this style already, just with a different arrangement. But yeah, agreed.

Xenocide - 2014-02-25

Seth is actually a terrific singer-songwriter. The only part of Family Guy that has any effort put into it are the musical numbers, with their 50's lounge influence. I wish the guy would just ditch his fart joke-based empire and cut a few albums already.
