If Beavis & Butthead say it's cool, I will buy it.

I got some MINTIA in Japan that was "MORNING SPEAR" flavored.

I was curious so I looked it up, and sure enough that horrible videogame "Virtual Stupidity" (or "Bībasu to Battoheddo no Vācharu Aho Shōkōgun") was released that year, on PC in the US, but on PC and PSX in Japan. Weird!

oh wait.. upon closer inspection the PSX version was released in '98. It'd make sense that B&B would get bigger in foreign markets later than in the US, kind of like DBZ, Gundam, all of the above got big in the US primarily in the late 90s.

Still, I don't see it translating any more than I'd imagine Seinfeld did overseas. I was never a big fan of either of the above animes, but it was kind of cool to see more flying robots and people. Beavis and Butthead, like King of the Hill, seem entirely too "Americana" to me to translate successfully.

Authors like Murakami can craft a novel (and at least in one case a movie) where you can forget where it takes place, but others like Mishima.. well you kind of had to be there. Yeah that's right, I just compared Mike Judge to Yukio Mishima.
