FUCK stephen fry, just FUCK HIM. I will probably one star this in the morning but I got to see if he is promoting a good message first.

See, this is the thing. I don't really know much about Stephen Fry. I've seen some stuff he's done and he's funny but he also seems to be on the wrong side of the atheist line where it becomes more than a lack of belief and becomes an identity, which I think is stupid. But that alone wouldn't compel me to any strong opinion on him. Likewise, I've recently heard stuff about how they totally hate John Kricfalusi, Frank Miller, Orson Scott Card, etc. and I just can't relate to that. People should have far fewer opinions and be far slower to anger over other people's shit, IMO. Unless Fry has, like, murdered someone or worked against the interests of the poor or something else vile, why bother getting worked up about him?

That said, I don't know your reasoning, so like OZ, I will concede the stage to you. Let's hear it.

The God of Biscuits - 2014-02-26

I like Stephen Fry a lot. He's a great host of QI because he genuinely knows a shitton of stuff. Go and watch Stephen Fry in America, where he travels all 50 states. He's really enjoyable and just really, really smart. And he's great in A Bit of Fry and Laurie as well.

EvilHomer - 2014-02-26

Some people hate Stephen Fry?! This is the first I've heard that one. If anyone here hates him, do explain!

oddeye - 2014-02-26

I just don't like him and seeing him on tv literally sends me into a frothing rage.

EvilHomer - 2014-02-26

There's got to be some reason. Is it because he's fat? Gay? British? Did he star in something you hated? Was it the way he badmouthed Miami?

You're entitled to hate him, of course, it's just that he strikes me as one of the nicest and least hateable celebrities on the planet.

misterbuns - 2014-02-26

did you get that edge at hot topic?

Hooker - 2014-02-26

He one starred it after withholding his stars depending on Fry's message. So oddeye is apparently in favour of sleeping with children as long as they're the opposite gender.

SolRo - 2014-02-26

Not sleep, just rape

That guy - 2014-02-26

oddeye, go fuck your own face.
I got you on ignore forever starting now.

oddeye - 2014-02-26

I actually never watched it and was not one starring his comment or stance on any relevant issues he may or may not have brought up in this video or anywhere else for that matter. I just don't like him, no reason why really.

Xenocide - 2014-02-25

"Where do you begin?"

At that point, you just get up and punch the dude in the teeth. Then you sit down like nothing happened. It's best to do this in one fluid motion. When you sit down again, place your right hand on your chin, as if you are still contemplating your next statement.

kamlem - 2014-02-25

Ah yes. The right kind of physical assault.

MacGyver Style Bomb - 2014-02-25

Fucking Christ.

bac - 2014-02-25

grown fucking adults. GROWN FUCKING ADULTS.

Old_Zircon - 2014-02-26

A grown ass man and still lives with his moms. Metaphorically speaking anyway.

Jet Bin Fever - 2014-02-26

That's just awful. I thought, "Oh, it'll be some message with more gay bashing stuff..." but no. It was so so much more.

Kieran27 - 2014-02-26

Up till now, I didn't know what "Objective Morality" was. Thank you Uganda.

EvilHomer - 2014-02-26

I'd love to hear a post-colonialist's perspective on this.

EvilHomer - 2014-02-26

Apologies for the Sartre, but I like the imagery in this passage and thought it might apply here:

"Europeans, you must open this book and enter into it. After a few steps in the darkness you will see strangers gathered around a fire ... (The African Natives) will see you, perhaps, but they will go on talking among themselves, without even lowering their voices. This indifference strikes home: their fathers, shadowy creatures, your creatures, were but dead souls; you it was who allowed them glimpses of light, to you only did they dare speak, and you did not bother to reply to such zombies. Their sons ignore you; a fire warms them and sheds light around them, and you have not lit it. Now, at a respectful distance, it is you who will feel furtive, nightbound and perished with cold. Turn and turn about; in these shadows from whence a new dawn will break, it is you who are the zombies."

And Googling around, I've found more than a few African homophobes using post-colonial rhetoric to counter the Western LGBT movement. For example, here's a Nigerian op-ed piece that uses Fanon to attack Western attempts to "reform" Ghana's attitude towards LGBT rights:

That guy - 2014-02-26

Not surprised. Good thought and good find.

Rosebeekee - 2014-02-26

Jeeeeeesus Christ.

pyslexic dharmacist - 2014-02-27

Wow. I mean WOW. How the fuck was that quote not a headline in 85 point font? Why am I just hearing about this now? And has that documentary come out yet? (No pun intended)
