The narration reminds me immensely of the sort of excitable voice one would usually find behind really inventive MB board games of the 1980s, and the whole "faux-arcade" presentation adds a lot too.

This is like a checklist of red flags for trendy cliche current indie game shovelware: retro pixels, roguelike, Lovecraft. All it needs is Newtonian liquids, Minecraft shelter building, and a narrative allegory for gender reassignment surgery.

Why do you hate fun?

Nominal - 2014-03-04

Because the above stuff is constantly gobbled up by lazy meme spewers who respond to everything with lazy spews like "Why do you hate fun?"

YOU MAD BRO-NIMAL?????????

This looks like a lot of fun, especially at the arcade (give that "insert coin" graphic some real meaning) but yeah.. most of us grew up with these kinds of graphics hoping for something new and more realistic, or at least I did.. the nostalgia factor is cool, almost like buying a record instead of getting an album off itunes, but the pixel nostalgia thing's been around for a long, long time.

I think it works great for Flash games, but I can imagine if this were to come out on Super Nintendo, it would have been praised for its gameplay but panned for its graphics.

Xenocide - 2014-03-04

Maybe indie developers do this a lot because they're indie developers, so they don't have the multi-million dollar budgets you need to make impressive graphics in 2014?

It's better for someone to stick to something easy like 2d pixel art if they aren't competent with doing things in 3d. Id rather someone make a stylish but low-cost and low-effort indie game than an overambitious failure of a 3d indie game.

I love me some randomly and procedurally generated games, but i am getting a bit sick of this 'pitfall harry of the 24th century' look.

Gives me flashbacks to Poe-news.

I'm sure this has to already be on here, but this totally reminded me of this. Sometimes actions speak louder than words.

Hopefully it is available on Steam. However, kinda disappointed that the hero only wields a sword.

Ghoul - 2014-03-04

The trailer does show the Hero armed with daggers and a quarter staff.

Scrimmjob - 2014-03-05

Also , it says it's the 'greenlight' trailer, which means it is in fact on steam right?

Jet Bin Fever - 2014-03-06

Oh come on, you could make it look better than that. I'm fine with companies not working on REALLY GREAT GRAPHICS and instead focusing on gameplay, but this is just lazy.

fatatty - 2014-03-07

I can tell I'm the only one here who's actually made game art because that animation is very well done. The style is simple for sure, but the actual movement is excellent.

I guess maybe because I haven't actually played many of these modern pixel games I'm not sick of it yet. I'll definitely be checking this out.

Pixel art isn't nearly as easy as yinz seem to think.
