A SWIMMING HORSE? THAT'S JUST RIDICULOUS. I PLEDGE MINUS A BILLION DOLLARS.

Sexy Duck Cop - 2014-03-09

That is the best rogue's gallery of chin-stroking, pipe-smoking, camus-not-reading, CVS-White-Zinfadel-drinking fedorites I've ever seen.

I mean my God, their graphic designer is named Lindsay. Do you know how many fat "artists" fitting into that exact niche are named Lindsay? It's like retarded people named Leonard.

Xenocide - 2014-03-09

I like the lead writer who decided to pose with his favorite terrible manga, in what is clearly a bookstore aisle.

fedex - 2014-03-09

um, it's not that good

Shoebox Joe - 2014-03-10

Ditto with this.

This is like a rung up from the "rubber latex furry" artwork both the intentional and unintentional.

Caminante Nocturno - 2014-03-09

Well, it's official.

The bronies win.

You all lost.

Man, I sure am glad I chose the winning side in this battle.

The rest of you, enjoy drowning in a sea of your own impotent, flaccid tears.

Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha!!!

Cena_mark - 2014-03-09

I thought the more depraved and crazy the bronies get is a loss for our side. Aren't we wanting greater acceptance of the show and its adult viewers?
I look forward to Evil Homer's input.

EvilHomer - 2014-03-09

I thought Caminante WAS one of the depraved and crazy bronies?

Anyway, I could see how something like this could go over well with the fedora-and-4chan. Katawa Shoujo proved that there's a demand for English language J-dating games, and of course, there's the ungodly number of cloppers and pony waifu enthusiasts (I think I read somewhere that MLP has recently surpassed Touhou Project as the second-most pornized franchise on the internet). I don't really do dating games, of course, and even if I did there's no way I'd pick up a game with ponies as *hairy* as these ones (honestly, wtf), but I'm willing to bet this is going to be a hit. It's at times like this I kinda wish Kickstarter, or even crowdsourcing in general, would adopt a more traditional mode of investor payout. That is, instead of developers getting their capital in exchange for vague promises (they're basically e-begging, or perhaps e-telethoning), they'd actually offer stock options for investors. I am not interested in this game personally, and promising me that you'll have more levels if I pay up isn't going to change that. But, if you'd offer me a profit-sharing incentive, then fuck, yeah, I'll bankroll half your game right now. Anyway, all this has more to do with the quirks of crowdsourcing than it does with the pony game, so I'll reign it in before I go too far offtopic.

Another thing that worries me ( though not as much the hairiness) is the clothes. Bondage gear and lacey gothlolita maid collars? Is this going to be super angsty and dumb? Also, a big part of the charm of MLP is the writing. "For the plot hurr durr", but it's true; I think the mane reason why so many people have started obsessing over the show's characters is because they're so well written and so well acted. But that's not something just anyone can do; take a room full of nerds and their OC ponies, and I guarantee you not ONE of them will be anywhere near as interesting as Applejack, let alone Fluttershy or Rainbow Dash. Ultimately, it's not the fact that they are ponies which matters, and if you're trying to recapture the magic of the show by making a game with ponies specifically, you're missing the point.

Not that this will stop pony-obsessed fanboys for nerdgasming all over it. Loving worthless things, merely because these things happen to fall into the same broad aesthetic genre as something genuinely worthwhile, that is the tragic drama underlying all geekdom, is it not?

EvilHomer - 2014-03-09

Sorry, fedora-and-4chan *set*. I've really got to start proofreading more, or maybe hire my own personal editor.

Also, it took me a few minutes, but I figured out where I got the porn info from. It was a fellow named Bronystories, who has a blog over on FIMFiction. He's actually a very interesting read, intelligent and professional, and I believe he may be a research associate for the folks who made that "Dakimakura For Christmas" video. A little creepy, though.

www.fimfiction.net/blog/194814/mlp-rule-34-update-august-2013- one-year-anniversary-special-rule-34-origins

(Post is SFW, but a little blue, and full of porn statistics)

Caminante Nocturno - 2014-03-09

I'm confident that, if one were to take all of the pornography produced by the mentioned franchises and not just what was limited to the site he sampled from, Touhou would blow everything else out of the water.

Meerkat - 2014-03-09

That was an EPIC comment. EPIC to the XTREEEEEEEEEEEME.

WAAAAAAAA

DOODLY DOO DOODLY DOO

EvilHomer - 2014-03-09

I really don't get the popularity of Touhou. I know it's big in Japan, right? But I've never played a single one of their games, and I don't know anyone who has. So what's the deal, Caminante?

Caminante Nocturno - 2014-03-09

Aside from the stunning visuals and the fact that the entire cast is made up of girls, one of the biggest reasons for Touhou's popularity is the music. The games have amazing soundtracks.

Xenocide - 2014-03-09

Here's the deal with Touhou: One day, someone said, "Hey, what if I could play, like, Gradius, only it's much, MUCH harder, and all the characters are little anime girls who fly and shoot magic at each other?"

He woke up the next morning and the internet was filled with porn. It was the best Christmas ever.

oddeye - 2014-03-09

Children's cartoon feverishly mastu... ehh whatever. 5 stars for the edgy one with the shark jaws on her ass.

BiggerJ - 2014-03-09

To add to the mounting list of offenses: according to this, those legs would not support their terrible bodies: http://autumnbramble.tumblr.com/post/79013411495/autumnbramble-i-s ee-a-lot-of-how-to-draw

Caminante Nocturno - 2014-03-09

Well, that completely ruins it for me. I'm glad you pointed this out to me before I gave them any of my money.

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2014-03-09

"I’m reblogging this anew because the big pony dating sim kickstarter makes this basic horse anatomy mistake and it looks gross"

THAT'S what makes someone start to get nauseated?

Jack Dalton - 2014-03-09

Real humans are making this game-- reasonably attractive people are voicing the horses...

Is the brony phenomena that big? It seems like a lot of work for a game that will end up being popular with "the dark side of brony fandom"-- I'm sure the mods will be anything but pg-13.

EvilHomer - 2014-03-09

It's huge. As a comparison, at the peak of Star Trek's popularity, there were perhaps 2 million Trekkies in the US. But based on internet polling and convention attendance figures, there are now somewhere between 7 and 12 million bronies.

Jack Dalton - 2014-03-09

What are the demographics of Bronies based on this data?

EvilHomer - 2014-03-09

The best place to look for a statistical analysis of bronydom is the Herd Census:

http://herdcensus.com/

There's a buckload of data there, covering almost any question one might have.

BHWW - 2014-03-09

If you ask me, that sounds like 7 to 12 million too many.

Meerkat - 2014-03-09

It turns out this dating sim thing is designed to be so addictive it will lock those 7 to 12 million young men into a cycle of masturbation and parental cellar occupation, preventing them from ever being able to form a real relationship with a woman and reproducing.

This is intended to take a huge bite out of mankind's growth problem and give us a few years before the unsustainability of our population really kicks in, buying us precious time to build our undersea libertarian paradises.

EvilHomer - 2014-03-09

You know, Meerkat, you are not the first person to think like this. Your theory brings to mind one of the anti-pony hate arts from Encyclopedia Dramatica. (following link is ED, so assume NSFW)

https://encyclopediadramatica.es/File:Mlpconcept01.jpg

National Socialists do not like ponies.

Old_Zircon - 2014-03-09

Credit where credit is due, they're at least asking for a reasonable amount of money instead of, like, k or something.

Old_Zircon - 2014-03-09

Fall River!

They should team up with Million Dollar Extreme.

dairyqueenlatifah - 2014-03-09

I made it until the voice actresses were introduced. I barely made it through "Pumpkin Pie", and then "Jet" made me close the video.

I remember when I first discovered anime dating sims on Newgrounds back in 2000, and thinking how absolutely bizarre/pathetic that was. Oh, to be young and naive.

ashtar. - 2014-03-09

Taste the Chet.

Jack Dalton - 2014-03-09

Who is Chet? Did he used to be some cool person here once or something?

EvilHomer - 2014-03-09

Chet was our God, He who gave form to nothingness and breathed life into His children... but He abandoned us long ago.

Caminante Nocturno - 2014-03-09

We trusted Chet with our lives, but, in the end, he abandoned us.

May his suffering equal his betrayal.

sasazuka - 2014-03-09

I like the concept but the guy in the troll costume is killing my buzz.

Shoebox Joe - 2014-03-10

I am not playing that video.

I am definitely not playing a video that has already produced its future mug shots of kiddy fiddlers and Mr. Hands followers.

Shoebox Joe - 2014-03-10

Okay, maybe I'm being a little harsh.

These are young adults, right?

Young adults who could possibly see past a pseudo Ayn Rand filter and show some compassion?

Pope Caius - 2014-03-11

Turns out it's fake:

EvilHomer - 2014-03-11

HAW! The old Post Your Scam on a Social Media Website for Everyone to See strategy; very clever, surprised it didn't work. Here's another, slightly more in-depth analysis of the scandal:

http://www.horse-news.net/2014/03/from-skeptics-desk-dark-skye s-aka.html

According to this, Redditors claiming to be associated with the game intend to release a demo soon, as proof of their legitimacy. There are also legions of /mlp/ anons crying for blood, with full dox on the way. I really want to see where this is going now, thanks!

EvilHomer - 2014-03-11

Jesus Christ, it's these asshats:

http://www.poetv.com/tags.php?k-million%20dollar%20extreme-547 46-.html

EvilHomer - 2014-03-11

...and finally, Equestria Daily provides links to the other side of the argument:

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/2110528317/dark-skyes-an- epic-brony-dating-sim/posts/772597

The Kickstarter page now claims this whole thing is a work, and blames SomethingAwful.

Caminante Nocturno - 2014-03-12

What am I going to do with all of this incredibly graphic Pumpkin Pie rape fanfiction I wrote?!?

Waugh - 2014-10-28

I hope Sam Hyde makes a lot of money and buys a lot more Zyklon B.
